Polk-a-dots
Krystle Duke Mar 2017
Sometimes I wish you’d cover me in polk-a-dots
big and bright polk-a-dots
scattered from my blonde head
to my long toes

I wouldn’t care what color
pink
or
green
or
red
just big and bright
for her to see
and him to see
so maybe they’d understand
that you are real
and that I am not crazy

Can’t you do it?
just for a day
cover me in polk-a-dots
you do so many other things
from making my fingers tingly
to making my legs wobbly
to making me feel like I’m on fire

Can’t you do it?
even one little polk-a-dot
Please!
so they can see
that you are real
and  that I am in pain
A poem about living with an invisible illness.

To One of My Loves
Krystle Duke Mar 2017
Is there a place beyond broken
A place where all the more than broken souls live
Is it dark there
Is it cold there
Is it a place you can leave
A place you want to leave
Or is it a place you are used to
A place you call home
Sometimes no matter how much you love someone and how much you tell them that, it' hard to reach them.

Grandma
Krystle Duke Jan 2017
"Grandma"

You had a secret
But you wore it on your sleeve
For all the world to learn from
And all the world to see

A heart that was kind
And gentle, but strong
A heart that stayed open
And sang its own song

A heart that saw goodness
And was truly good
A heart that always had faith
And encouraged others when it could

A heart that shared extraordinary memories
And inspired me to make my own
A heart that listened
And supported me as I have grown

A heart that loved her family
And touched everyone she met
A heart that made you feel special
In ways that you could never forget

A heart that’s now up in heaven, where it belongs
Because it was a heart of an angel all along
My Grandma lived a long active, happy life through age 103. She was one of a kind!
