Dance Lessons

I signed up for dance lessons
perhaps more because I was lonely
than the desire to learn dance.
She had been gone so long
and the quietness of the house
was getting to be more than
I could stand.
I suppose I was frightened
I had not mixed socially for many years.
But I collected all my courage
and went to the small studio
on the third floor of a walk up building.
I was not prepared for the teacher
she was beautiful close to my age.
so graceful like a swan.
Her hair tight to her head
almost like a ballerina.
She taught me the waltz.
But not like a dance
she took beautiful waltz poses
smiling so lovely
as she gazed upward
to an imaginary  audience.
The music so soft and smooth
I found something at last
that made me  happy
for the first time since –well
..for a long time.
She saw I had an aptitude for dance
and spent time teaching me
the rumba, cha cha, and quickstep andTango.
It was when she danced the Tango with me
that I knew I was in love with her.
I felt as though she
was making love to me in dance.
One night she had me stay
and we drank a little glass of wine.
She said how come you never remarried.
You are a very attractive man.
I said because I never found anyone
who I could fall in love with.
I had a special one for twenty years.
I don’t think it comes like that twice
in a lifetime.
I was lucky to have it just once.
She smiled and held my hand.
Don’t you ever get lonely
being on your own.
I said
….Yes
She leaned forward and kissed me softly.
Are you lonely now she whispered?
I breathed quietly…….Yes .

A year later

They played a beautiful waltz at our wedding
and she led me around the floor
as the beautiful music lilted.
She whispered I love my dance partner.
I said I love my teacher.
I was now teaching
beginners class the dance studio.
I don’t think I have ever realized
I could be this happy again
And she loved me as much as I loved her.
And I would dance with her
for the rest of my lifetime.

Dance me through all I remember
with glitter ball lights in your eyes
dance me from january to december
in a room of a million soft sighs

dance me through children and laughter
in a place where true love never dies
dance me before and then after
as I drown in the pools of your eyes

Dance every day of our lifetime
dance away all heartaches and pain
when I am old and my eyes lose
their bright shine
then dance me and dance me again.

Dance with me slowly
For the rest of my life.
Dance with me always
through troubles and strife

Dance me through laughter
Dance me through tears
but dance with me always
Through passing slow years

Dance me through family
dance me through home
Dance me through children
And dance me alone

Glance to  me your sweetness
In your glitterball eyes.
Fill me with your loving
Fill me with your sighs
Love you honey
always will

The darkness falls gentle from a pallet sky
A look of longing rest in my eye
The church bells sing the holiest blues
Are we to pass like yesterday's news?

I see dark endings oh so crystal clear.
I can hear your goodbye its almost here
Our past is dancing loves last waltz
It's mournful music sways and halts

Truth calls the moment to ignite the light
It's voice whispers between all wrong and right
Whispers are memories than hang on my breath.
Our loves tired and broken now ready for death

Touch lightly this moment with tears in our eyes.
Drown sorrows with music and play our goodbyes.
For hearts have a room where old loves are parked
And the future holds secrets in the darkest of dark.

Dancing With Chopin

By Jude Kyrie

Vienna 1896

*Do you like Chopin she whispered.?
Yes Milady I love Chopin.
Then we shall dance sir.
The darkened ballroom was lit
only by the candelabra
of the moon and stars.

As they waltzed to his nocturne
The pianist delicately flowed
each beautiful note,  like raindrops
falling softly in the nighttime.
She was so lovely in her gown
So much what he wanted
But in a station far beyond his.

He had promised her.
Even if they could not be as one
In this lifetime he would wait
for her in the next and they
would spend eternity together.

Vienna 2015

Each night they
met in the famous old ballroom
they would dance to Chopin
only Chopin, forever.

As the soft darkness of night
melted into
the approaching light
of dawn they faded
leaving only silence.

The old caretaker
approached the ballroom.
And said to himself
I am sure I heard Chopin again

Danger Danger.I am.falling in love again*

Bright stars shine in the heavens
Dancing in the sky tonight.
Universe is singing singing.
Planet earth bask in its light.

Sweetness is pouring pouring.
Like heavens rain from above
Bright eyes are dancing dancing.
Dancing on a sea of love

Danger Danger.
Falling down the milky way.
Hearts are falling falling
Falling in love today.
Drop a little of this stardust on me
Pretty please

He was always chatty after making love
He said to her in his expansive voice..
I want to skydive from a plane.
I want to paraglide from a cliff top.
I want to climb the sheer rock face
of the Himalaya's
I want to take a diving Bell
to the deepest part of the ocean.
I want to all this before I am thirty.
She held him close to her
Her softness exquisite and lovely
he melted into her.
She said to him
If you want to do something
that terrifies you to the core.
Why don’t you just marry me.

darkness  is a mantle
That billows from the clouds
It brings back all the pain
Hidden inside its ghostly  shrouds

Bring me the  light of morning
Hold fast those  bitter tales
Give me the tender light of dawning.
Quieten all your stormy gales

Bring softly the ghostly memories
That dance inside  my head
Take away the fear and longing
For all of those now dead

It’s three in the morning.
The blues are playing
silently in my head.
You have left me
It’s sad but the
heartless universe spins on.
Tuesdays become Wednesday
Like always.
The stars twinkling cascades
appear nightly just like before.
I suppose my tiny world
Will go on.
I will live day by day
and night by night
inside it.
And perhaps one day
become accustomed
to the fact
It no longer
has a sun.

My tiny flat is old and dark.
All I got in the split
looks out of place.
She took most everything.
I do not care she can have it.

The only thing I wanted from her
was her love and my daughter.
She has taken both of these things
to another man’s house now.

She drops my teenage daughter off .
for my weekend.
She looks reluctant,
giving me her disinterested look.
but realizes she will have to stay.

My wife looks well and very beautiful
I close my eyes for a moment.
Remembering her long hair
falling on my bare chest
in our bed as we made love.
She turns and leaves
I notice her shapely legs so ****.
I want to say Honey please don’t go.
But bite my lip.

My daughter has a new
tattoo on her shoulder.
And wears Goth like makeup.
My God! What’s happening?
I am cringing
at the miserable time ahead.

Teenagers don't care about anything.
I don’t think we have anything
left in common anymore.
She ate nothing at supper

I go to bed early.
She hears me weeping softly
in the dark.
She comes into my room.
Saying nothing.
She cradled my head
to her small breast.
And kissed my forehead gently.

Then softly she whispered
"Its ok dad,
you are going to be just fine
You have me.
and I will always love you"
That was the moment when
my heart stopped breaking
Jude kyrie Aug 2015
How can she not know she’s dead?
The wedding ring dull with soap ****.
I follow her in silence
like an afterthought

She drives her car to the store.
Walking in a mist to buy cheese
How can she not know she’s dead?

She walks down each grocery aisle.
Her legs shapely as before
her figure full and warm
I watch her quietly
in a silent storm.
How can she not know she’s dead?

She tosses her head her hair flips
like when we are in our bed.
Where she makes love to me
like a troublesome job .
on her to-do list.
How can she not know she’s dead?

Strangers see her fake
white toothed smile.
I see her for the ***** she is.
How can she not know she’s dead?

I follow her to the car
Like something she forgot she said.

Border patrol took them in
To the prisons dark and dim
Stole the child from mothers breast
An America no longer at its best

Wide eyed weeping children wail
In sorrow and grief  the systems fail
Breaking the bonds of family
Ingrained in all man and refugee.

A colossus stands with torch ablaze
A momento to more honest days
The spirit.of a country born
With words of bronze
That can't be torn.

Her statue stands to set men free
For all of us both you and me
Her words now scorned for all to see
Once the sign of hope and liberty.

**Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door
Wake up America
You have replaced
love with greed
Kindness with cruelty
and your
friends with enemy's,

She has dedicated her life to love and Romance.
Affection always craved and never withheld.
Living in a dreamlike state of untruths
that to her
were as honest as the day.

In dreams, she lies in fertile fields
the wind curving the golden barley.
Her heart is as permanent as the stones
her love unlimited and free as the summer wind.

She knew men that she called her lovers.
They drained their needs and desires
Into her and she loved them.
She bore their children
and gave them all of her that she could.

When they left her
she  would lose  a small piece of her heart.
Sometimes they took a bigger piece.
After many years she had none left to give.
But still, she tried to give herself to them.

When she died she lay rested
Below the swaying branches
Of the weeping willow trees.
And all the mourning flowers
turned towards her grave.
To feel her warmth
even in death

December fog

The white fog is swirling about me
taking shapeshifting forms.
The compression of the troubled world
makes it thicker .
Ghost flow from my lungs
They hurry to hide in the white mist.
Beautiful shapeshifting specters
melt into the white fog.
I live here between the earth and sky
Where visions are all grey and white
And all the people have vanished.
The silence is louder
and even in the impenetrable fog
the world becomes simpler
And the solution to all my problems
seems clearer.

Deep In the night
Is when the colors fall.
From a velvet sky
comes midnight blue.

Within  the shadows
Whispers call to me.
I know the voice is you.

In the silence
Sweet music plays.
Memories sway
To a romantic tune
That comes from
Once happier days.

In the breaking light
The colors fall.
From a morning sky
comes paler blue

But In my heart
the colors fall.
Each time
I think of you.

There are
many colors there
of every shade and hue.
But the only one that
I can see is deep
And sad and Blue.
Blue is night sometimes

Wandering in the dark rooms

Just to feel warmth once more.
But listen.
Whoever you are

I felt it odd you were shy

She was beautiful
perhaps too pretty for me
such an ordinary man.
but beautiful in dark way.
I was no more
than origami to her.
She could shape me
anyway she wanted.
Her creases hurt me
but she did not care.
I realized that I loved her.
When I found myself
making excuses to others
for why she hurt me so badly.
Sometimes the pain
from her hurts
Was too much
for me to bear.
She would see my tears
and for a moment
she was kind and gentle
to me.
like a cat with a mouse.
I asked her
Why do you play with me
like that.?
She gave me her beautiful smile.
and the answer I already knew.
Because I can
and I am too old
to play with dolls.

Don't Ask Me

Don't ask me about her eyes
they are green and dangerous
like the eyes of a jungle predator
I want to kneel before her
and beg for her mercy

Don't ask me about her hands
scarred by a thousand stories
I watch them like
a deer in the headlights.
as they trace her naked body.
Fear mounting in me.

Don't ask me about her lips
they are red and shiny
with the blood of her victims.
I want her to use them as wishes
on me
as I watch her
out of body from above
devouring me.

Don't ask me about the fear
i that roars through my heart
when she turns to me
and takes me in my surrender.

Don't ask me
what I will do
when she eats her fill of me
and leaves me devoured
and lost.

Even when I was  a little boy
in grade school.
I knew what love looked like.
She wore glasses
and had two long pigtails
I carried her books everywhere.
She treated me
like her puppy at home.

In high School
I met love again.
Love  was more like a woman now.
But still a little girl inside.
Her softness was forming.
We looked into
each other's eyes
love and I.
Under starry nights,
And prom dances.
I bought love a corsage
Love kissed me that night
for the very first time.

In college, love was a grown woman.
Full of politics,ideas and opinions.
Love stopped wearing lipstick.
And started calling men *******.
I said to love
I am a man --I think
Love took me to her bed
She said not you all the others.
And then left me for another guy.

After college.
I married love she was different.
She wanted to build a nest.
Where we could raise a family.
We had three kids love and I.
And I got left behind somehow.
I became the father of loves children.
And loves husband and breadwinner.
A bunch of labels.
Love stopped
seeing me as a man.
I nearly died of loneliness.

After the divorce
I was  forty-five.
I found love again.
She was older and.wiser
Love did not fall for
the cries of men easily.
She took no wooden nickels.
But I loved her .
Love said we do ok for retreads.
I told love she was beautiful
Even when her eyes were red
From crying of her lost love.
Then love wept
perhaps once too often.
And love  left me.

It's been awhile since love left.
But I know she is out there somewhere .
sipping coffee in Starbuck's in Seattle
or
Watching the tree light
in Washington's square.
Or
Sunbathing on a beach in LA.

You see when love left me.
I left the door wide open.
I whispered softly.
Bye Love, thanks
for coming to see me.
Don't be a  stranger love
come back soon
I love it when you are around.
When love walks in and takes you for a spin.

I have stopped writing love poems for you.
And please do not think this is a love poem.
Because I am finally over you at last.

I do not care to relive past moments of us.
Like when I saw you for the first time.
And the songs of angels rang in my heart.

I will never write a love poem for you again.
Like when we sheltered from the spring rain
Below a maple tree in muted olive greens
And the colour of its leaves
were the exact colour of your eyes.

I am finished with silly love poems
And I will never mention again
How I still stop and catch my breath
when I ihear a laugh
exactly like yours.
Or when
I see a woman from behind
And her hair is burnished gold
just like yours.

I am now quite over you.
I hardly ever think of you anymore.
Except perhaps in springtime.

But then

I should never think of springtime.
For that would surely
break my heart in two.

*Don’t fall in love with a poet.

By Jude Kyrie

I look into your trusting beautiful eyes.
You are so lovely so gentle and loving.
I wonder if you know yet
you will leave me.

For you are playing
with a tinder box.
And I am a gallon of gasoline.
The fire is inevitable.

You will find out there
A man who is gentle
with a loving heart
He will see only
the beauty in you.

You will have become
tired of my poetry
The emotional roller coaster
I choose to live on.
Weary of the poets afflictions
for red wine and infidelity.

You will fall into his bed
and he will welcome you.
Into his much stronger arms
than mine can ever be.

I shall return
to writing love poems
Poems that are
real to my heart
But to a woman
that cannot ever exist.

I shall frequent
the slam bars of the city.
And sleep with
the women who think its
Romantic to bed a poet.
Yet never ask
my last name.

So strike your tinder box.
Create a spark.
Save yourself
as I ignite into
flames before you.

But to a woman
that cannot ever exist.
I shall frequent
the slam bars of the city.
And sleep with
the women who think its
Romantic to bed a poet.
Yet never ask
my last name.
So strike your tinder box.
Create a spark.
Save yourself
as I ignite into
flames before you.

Don’t fall in love with a poet.

By Jude Kyrie

I look into your trusting beautiful eyes.
You are so lovely so gentle and loving.
I wonder if you know yet
you will leave me.

For you are playing
with a tinder box.
And I am a gallon of gasoline.
The fire is inevitable.

You will find out there
A man who is gentle
with a loving heart
He will see only
the beauty in you.

You will have become
tired of my poetry
The emotional roller coaster
I choose to live on.
Weary of the poets afflictions
for red wine and infidelity.

You will fall into his bed
and he will welcome you.
Into his much stronger arms
than mine can ever be.

I shall return
to writing love poems
Poems that are
real to my heart
But to a woman
that cannot ever exist.

I shall frequent
the slam bars of the city.
And sleep with
the women who think its
Romantic to bed a poet.
Yet never ask
my last name.

So strike your tinder box.
Create a spark.
Save yourself
as I ignite into
flames before you.

Don’t take this as a love poem.
I do not care to relive our moments.
Like when I saw you for the first time.
And the songs of angels rang in my heart.

I will never write a love poem for you again.
Like when we sheltered from the spring rain
Below a maple tree in olive greens
And the colour of its leaves
Were the exact colour of your eyes.

I am finished with silly love poems
And will never mention again
How I stop and my heart skips a beat
when I hear a laugh
exactly like yours.
Or see a woman from behind
and her hair is burnished gold
Just like I remember yours.

I am now quiet over you.
In fact I hardly ever think of you anymore.
Except perhaps in blossoming springtime.
But then I should never think of springtime.
For that would surely
break my heart in two.

Written as a woman

**I know you don't think we'll ever part.
But you will ..you will..you will.
You are a tinder box
I am dry kindling.
One day you will strike
And a spark will
burn me down.
Leaving only grey ashes.
You will find another girl.
One whose moods
do not swing with wine and smoke.
Whose eyes are clear and bright.
Not wet and red like mine.
She will not get into hangover rages
You will fall into her gentle softness
and her bed.
And I will return to
waking up in cloudy mornings.
With a lover
that does not even
know my name.
I like riding from woman's virwpo9.

Soft dreams my sweet dreamer
Dream of lifetimes that last
May our purest love guide you
From heartbreaks long past

May sweet music sooth you
In loves gentle sleep
For when you awaken
These dreams will repeat.

Dreaming in Black

Tonight I am am dreaming
But it's not a dream it's real.
I am black in America.

I drink wine in dark places
I kiss a black woman.
******* her lips
I want to get it on with her.
Even though she looks like
Every woman I have ever had.

I don't have time to spare.
I am black in America.
Death hides behind every door.
The color gunmetal blue
Explodes like fire.

This minute may be my last.
I know I am hunted
Black and hunted.
In the inner city schoolroom.
Baby black faces
look into my eyes.
They ask about
rough hewn slave boats.
Of peaceful villages
by the sea in the African sun.
Of freedom and equal rights.
Of black heroes.

I try to keep them alive
To pass on in future folklaw.
But I know they are unsure
If they exist in this moment.

I drink wine in dark places
I kiss a black woman
******* her lips
I just want to get it on with her.

My blood is in rage
It's hot and boiling.
Their bloodhounds can smell me.
I inow
I will be safe
If I do what they want.
If I don't slip up.
Make a mistake and
then the gunmetal will shine.
In seedy bar lights.
And it's flash will
have the sharp kiss
of oblivion.

I awaken from the dream.
In a panic.
But it's changed me.
It will not go away.
In my heart
I am still
Black in America
One day there will be only the color rainbow.

Sometimes I dream of Angels
I see the Angels in my dreams
Their gossamer wings unfolding.
Like curtains to lock out the dark.
I think they are coming for me.
I almost hear their voices
pouring like the  water filled
strings of a harp.
Translucent skin bereft of
all human colors and hues.
They are said to bring
calm and peace.
But I am restless and
disturbed by them.
As all the things
I have left undone in my life.
Shatter like ice crystals
In a snowstorm.

Dreams that Never Fade Away

A Poem
By.

Jude Kyrie

I dream of loving
the things that will stay.
All loved and trusted,
never passing away.

No withering dreams|
now long ago gone.
No yearning and hoping
for new dreams to come.

The flowers I love
won’t wither and fold.
But bloom more for me
the harder I hold.

No agony of heart
of lost love and tears.
Just glowing sweetly
in the fast coming years.

Longing to sleep
in a place with my dreams.
Where all ever remains
in endless light beams.

Though once in a while
my sad heart may sigh.
I know new loves and joy
will come to me by and bye

The planet bask in the nightglow
of countless stars in the night sky.
The bloom of their stardust
falling upon her like rain.
I know it is her.
She is the one.
The one I have waited for.
For so long.
Listen to our hearts
bursting into love songs.
In a joyous duet.

The stone mason

*he was old now
his hands unsteady.
The eyesight fading.
in winter he worked
inside his barn.
it could let the rheumatic
cool down to let him work
for an hour or more.
His grandfather had
apprenticed his father.
and he had apprenticed him.
and now his son was apprenticed.
The tools were the same.
no room for technology
Here only artisan skill.
The polished marble slab
was taking shape.
a headstone that
would stand proudly
in the cemetery.
like many of his others
that he had made
in over fifty years of his life.
it was almost finished
possibly the best work
he had ever done.
the N was the final letter
he tapped it with the iron
rounded chisel.
just hard enough
to create a perfect slant
in the marble.
her name a thing of beauty
EMMA BROWN
His wife
he was careful to leave
space for his own name
below hers
his son would chisel that
when his time was called.
rubbing the marble to a high gloss
he whispered
see you soon my love.
