I’m always careful with what I say
Afraid I’ll make a mistake
And be put on display.
Then the whole world would see me
But im not ready for that yet
And I may never be.
I’m scared to show who I am
In a world where
No one would even give a ****.
And I can’t shake off the feeling
That my lonely heart
Will never begin healing.

There’s a hole that can’t be filled
In my fragile heart so still
So holding my breath I wait
Trapped like a dog in a crate
But it comes and goes so often
So it always seems forgotten.
And until one day if it hits you again
Just remember that you’ll always have a friend.

He loves me
He loves me not
He pretends to love me
As he sees my esteem rot
He says he’ll protect me
Until he gets caught
I know he lied to me
Because he loved me not
So now I’ll just love me
And I won’t be forgot.

She smiles for the camera again,
Hiding away all her fears.
And she wonders how long it’s been,
For it’s been far too many years.
She knows her life has been a silly game,
Fighting to be on top.
But there isn’t really anyone else to blame,
Except the photoshop.
One day she hopes that the world will see
Her hidden true beauty that lies inside,
Because maybe then she’ll finally be free, and never again have to hide.

When I first saw you
I couldn’t look away
And as my heart grew
You said you couldn’t stay
And when I asked you why
You said it’s because im a disease
And as you saw me cry
You left with much too ease
But now I know you were the sick one
And the hurt in you spread
So in the end it’s the poison that won
And you’ll forever be in my head

She looks around, lost again
Wondering in her thoughts.
Then she writes with her trusty pen
And feels her stomach knot.
She sees the boy she’s crushing on
But knows he’ll never feel the same,
Cause boys like him are always drawn
To girls who’ll play the game.
And she walks with her head down low,
Careful not to look up.
Fearful of what they will say
When they all see her close-up.
If only she knew what beauty she brings,
To the world she thought she knew.
Then maybe one day she would try to see things
From a new point of view.
And one night as she cried alone,
Wondering if she did something wrong ,
The boy climbed up her lonely tree
And told her “please stay strong”.
The boy saw right through her mask
And wanted to make her his
But all he could really ask,
"Was why would you do this?"
As he pointed to her hidden scars
She looked away in pain
For even all the beautiful stars
Could not blind her tears that fell like rain.
The boy grabbed her hand and said
I’ll promise you one thing,
For until the day that I am dead,
You will be my everything.

I wear it everyday, so you can’t see the real me
It hides away all my fears, and my biggest insecurity
And “what is that?” you might ask
And I’ll reply with a mask
That my biggest fear doesn’t matter to you
For I am the gum on the bottom of your shoe
That you may not notice until you look
When I have reached the end of my book.

A mirror is a cruel and destructive thing
It's powerful and it can be deceptive
And who knew what awful pain it could bring
And change a little girl's perspective.
But one day her mother will make her see
That a mirror doesn't show her what's really true
And then she'll listen to her mother's plea
And see herself from a different view.
