Female Guard Dog
Jess Goff Jan 2014
Don’t tell me how I should look, I don’t have to please you.
I spend my days considering you’re opinion, I shouldn’t have to.
You come around here and you judge, and mock, and discriminate
In other words, you shoot bullets.
Woman belong in the kitchen, huh?
Don’t forget it’s where the knives are kept.
Everyone knows woman are taught to grow in, I’ve heard it all before
Were taught be kind, and timid, and gentle, and caring
Why do you think the best guard dogs are female, though?
We loyal, and aggressive, and when we work up the nerve we could tackle you to the ground.

How many woman spend their days thinking of how to look better?
I’d give it a good 98%
98%
Think about it
And what’s sad is, the last 2% will get no recognition for their inner beauty.
Do you even know what inner beauty is?
Try watching for it, instead, it might change your world.

Now take a step back, take a look, put yourself in my shoes.
Be judged by each and every person
You think it’s just men that judge? Ha!
I’m judged by all of my friends even, I can’t escape it.

Men can sit around and say what they want, and do as they please, and be praised for it.
That’s *******. You reek of it.

How many woman have dyed their hair for you?
How many woman have lost ten pounds for you?
How many woman have cried for you?
How many know you don’t deserve it?

Woman are taught to shrink themselves, but in the words of Beyonce, I woke up flawless.
I will choose to eliminate you from my life
I will terminate you by any costs, and I will replace you with people who make me feel so **** fine.

I will grow into something greater than you will ever be, and you will learn your lesson.
I will teach future generation that they are beautiful the way they are
No man will tell them whether or not they are beautiful, God knows they don’t have a clue what true beauty is.

My friend had a boyfriend once, he would force her to weigh herself weekly and tell him what her weight was. And if she wasn’t small enough, he would force her to work out.
I hated him that day forward, and I tell her every day that she is beautiful because her own **** boyfriend couldn’t do it. So much for love.

I will rise above, and I will portray beauty for what it really is.
I will be the female guard dog this generation of young woman needs.
I will teach girls that beauty is what makes you happy.
If putting on ten pounds of makeup makes YOU happy, then do it!
Never do something for liking of anyone else.
woman, confidence, guard dog, boo men, men

Indie Record
Jess Goff Dec 2013
Side A

"So, what else are you into?"
I ask with curiosity
"Other things in life"
he answers as if I couldn't guess

When questions are asked, answered are wanted
but your answers only spark curiosity and doubt in me
curiosity in you, and doubt in my hope

your answers turn short
burning holes in my hope
another question asked
another answer given.

Side B

"I don't know, you have to tell me."
I reply to his contemplation of truth
"Do I have to?"
He asks
I can feel your smirk through the text
Another hole burnt into my hope
"No, not really, I'm just trying to get to know you"
I attempt, holding to my faith like a bird to the sky

My curiosity continues to consume me
My doubt continues to eat me alive
you remind me of an indie record
soft
interested
distant

flip it over, I want to hear it again.

Carry The Burden
Jess Goff Jan 2014
Love is not meant for those who can't carry a burden, it's to heavy for that.
The fear, anxiety, nightmares, dreams, wishes, hatred, hopes, pain
It's to heavy for someone who can't carry a burden.
I'm used to burdens, though, you see
I can carry all the anxiety and the wishes and pain
I can carry it so long as you don't hurt me like you said you wouldn't
One simple problem, you can't carry that burden
You dropped the burden, and pick it up, and drop it, like it's unimportant and something to play with
You can drop it and pick it up as much as you want, but it's fallen over the edge, my love, and
you can't get it back.
You hurt me, just like you said you wouldn't.
love, pain, burden, hurt, can't get it back,

You Don't Dream
Jess Goff Dec 2013
You can sleep, they encourage it actually.
You can sleep all day, and then again all night. It's easy when your so exhausted.
They'll give you drug after drug and with each one you fade out even more.
You stay tucked under your giant blanket, and make sure that your hand is propped up so the tube won't hurt under your skin.

When the peppy nurse walks in holding a vile full of clear liquid, you roll your eyes.
Just imagine the slick fluid quickly over taking every part of you.
You fade, and drift, and slide, and fall, and fade.
But you don't dream.

hold my pinkie
Jess Goff Jan 2015
there are little things you don’t notice in your every day life.
when you hold someones hand, do you link your pinkie with their forefinger like i do? I tend to always want to be on someones right side, out of comfort. i realize that the question “how are you feeling” is completely overwhelming and should at best be rephrased. showers fix everything…. almost everything. if you breath deep enough you could cause more problems or you could get rid of them, choose wisely. socks are hugs for your feet and should be appreciated. especially when your begging for them to give you more medication or something to make you sleep so that just for a while you don’t have to feel it and you don’t have to face it and it doesn’t have to be real but they won’t because they don’t understand. they don’t feel it. they don’t link their pinkies with someone forefinger when they hold hands and they don’t stand on the right side of someone out of comfort and they don’t believe showers fix everything but they back up deep breaths even though it can cause more problems.

Other Side Of The Door
Jess Goff Dec 2013
On the other side of the door, you're being dragged away.
The room must be soundproof because I don't know whether you're cheering or kicking and screaming.
I'd love it if you tried to stay, but at this rate it doesn't look like you will.
So go.
I can move on, I will move on.
The other side of the door must be a different world
If that's so, how'd you manage to make it into mine?
I want you out.
Is it not true that doors create separations?
You say you want it but where's your battering ram? I threw mine away.

Endlessly
Jess Goff Dec 2013
Why does everyone make you out to be so bad?
I don't see it.
Maybe it's because even when you're mad at me you stay gentle
Maybe it's because you know me more than you know other people
I'm convinced its because you love me
Endlessly

I have a feeling you don't mean to leave lasting impressions
You're one of those people who only wants people to know you now
I'm one of those people too
Maybe you weren't the best person when things went down
Are you not so bad because I'm the only who forgave you?
Don't worry, I feel that way too.
Forgiveness, love, endless love,

— The End —
