Look close enough
Megan Rose Apr 2014
My mind is a galaxy I invite you to thoroughly explore
Study the various constellations
That are my thoughts
Look close enough to see that each star is a thought and every one of them seems to be consumed by the image of your face
Look close enough to identify that all the shooting stars I wished upon were already dead
and in the void of fire spots
are the ghosts of previous hopes which float aimlessly
In desperation for fulfilment
A dead hope.
Look close enough to notice that despite the fact my mind is a sky full of luminous points
You are the only light I know

Id sooner have your hands realigned with the bruises upon my neck
Than dare to repeat the times you softly whispered into my ear the promises
That in comparison
Made your discarded bottles suddenly seem a lot less empty

a series of realisations
Megan Rose Apr 2014
I came to realise that the girl I passed on the street who didn't smile back wasn't ignoring me because she was consumed by a deep underlying sadness
She was just a girl who didn't like to smile

I came to realise that the abandoned house I pass each morning doesn't have a dramatically tragic reason for why it had been abandoned
It was merely because no one seemed to want it anymore

I came to realise that a lot of people aren't cruel as a defence mechanism due to wars that may be taking place in the furthest corners of their minds
They're just cruel

To summarise
I came to realise
That life is only as meaningful and poetic as you fool yourself into believing that it is
I'm not even sure what this is exactly

they say love makes you a meticulous observer
and here
I begin to notice the way your eyes crease
when your smiles are real
the specific way your lips curl up at the corners
and the dimples that appear
especially when you throw your head back effortlessly
embracing the laughter that makes you momentarily forget
why you were once so sad
but its always there
lurking
waiting to pounce
a tyrant of misery
unleashed from the darkest corners of your mind
your brows sink
your shoulders slump
you exhale as if you're longing for each breath you take to be your last
and I notice it all
but what does it change
I see you on your good days and god knows I love you on your worst
This is bad
