He sits in a metal chair
creaking
under his weight
his shadow rocks
as he rocks peaking
around the corner
is a flaming red gas pump
with a dyspeptic glass globe
out there off in the distance
are four lanes of blacktop
his is the fifth and solitary
one something we and the rest
of the world never will be privy to

Inspired by an Edward Hopper painting.
Melting
broken
twice right
cat's eyes
swishing tail
stuttering
stammering
seconds
making
solid minutes

The birds returning to their
Nest , the little ones under
The night sky , the stars shimmering
Like a wiggly worm , mom looking
At the young , Tired unable
To move , she cries and pebble
In the nest , falls below on
The ground , all burnt upon
The soil dead , the pain
The animals , no land to live in
No food to eat , god save us
From the inhumane kind , be kind to us.
The cry of animals during the forest fire .
