Foodstuffs
Derek Nelson Jan 2018
We all enjoy the various flavors of food
They all put us in a positive mood
Endless possibilities you can create,
Ending up on a large dinner plate

Think about your favorite dish
Do you please it? Make a wish,
A succulent, savory juicy steak
Or a rich, real chocolate chip cookie cake

Food is a force
We are drawn toward
Consuming, it will propel us forward
Red, yellow, blue, or green
Colors of all, can be vibrantly seen

My tastebuds excited,
To taste this here cuisine

The sweetness of sugar
The salty taste of French fries
Waiting
Ding! Dinner is done!
Feasting, is the prize

Sweet, sour, salty, savory
Favors unto our world
Metallic-ness, mintiness, fats, and piquancy,
A power as influential as gold.

Lemons and limes give less a good feel
Just add sugar in the drink for instantaneous flavor heal
Meat and more give nutritional balance
To a supper of veggies and many talents

A complete meal needs much, much more
A gargantuan turkey and some sweet potatoes are the core
The gravy train is leaving the station
So hustle up before it leaves the nation
Every day a different experience
Same tastes, but the qualia makes the difference

But soon it all tastes the same
The gravy train has stopped at the same place it came
It is time for a delightful, dessertful trip
Of a cinnamon flavored apple pie spaceship

Soaring in space, many new colors
For each one, a new flavor, we’ll intersect
In the distance, the ship of another's subject
An unidentified flavorful object

Parents and stuff
Derek Nelson Jan 2018
Four o'clock in the morning,
Ev’r’one ‘cept me still asleep.
The drinks in the freezer still freezing
Off my feet the taste starts to sweep.

Today was particularly rainy
Drip drip crashing, outside it seems rough
Explain I can't, at least not very
For Buffy speaks things such and stuff

Then an hour later after food
From upstairs pops a head
In a fitful voice shakes the mood
“Please, my son. Go to bed."

Go to bed I cannot and shall not,
For I have things to do
My belongings I have sought,
I must be leaving, I will pursue

I escape the place
Carrying the centre of commencement on my back
Treason is not the proper treatment; please replace

Parents, I sincerely thank you,
For the words you've spoken are true
Your prominence there all along
So much like a chocolate fondue

Striding for the future of me
The Sun of my humanity
Like matchstick is to fire,
And sand is to beach,
My fortitude, you may foresee

Snow
Derek Nelson Jan 2018
O, snow, why mustn't you go
A nuisance and irritating,
like a vexatious fly
You are not to my appreciation,
don't cha know?

You burn upon my hair and face,
a colossal disgrace
Fall in concrete-thick sheets
in the most inconvenient place
I truly despise you

Bone chilling cold and dark,
Frost-bitten by a wintry shark
A monstrous mammoth coat wrapped around me

The door is frozen shut
I've fallen on my ****
A black and blue ice sea forms behind me

Barely I can see,
I struggle for the key
And turn it as in the lock

Forcing the door
Ajar not before
A warm house air gives me a knock
