Nobody loves the girl in grey
She's pretty and smart
But that's all for today
She will climb mountains for you
Will cross oceans for you
Will cry for you
Will DIE for you,
But nobody would do the same

The girl in grey has pains of her own
She's tired
She's scared
She's all alone

For years and years
They've watched her play
With that smile of hers
Day by day

No one understood her crying tears
Or the constant questions
Or the lingering fears
She was strange
She was shy?

Nobody knows the girl in grey
She has so many stories
To tell day by day

She has so many secrets she's willing to share
She has so many hours she's willing to spare
Because one other person all dressed in grey
Is too many to count
In her eyes
Day by day

To see all the pain in the world around
To see all the suffering always found
She'd rather it just be herself

She's the girl in grey with the heart of a rainbow
She feels your pain like it's her own
She will never give up, cuz that's who she is
No matter if your name is John, Ann, or Liz

She will always be there
Just lurking around
Hoping against all odds
All girls in grey will be found

And loved to no end,
like she never could be
She loves herself like she loves her family
She will hold on

Nobody loves the girl in grey
She's kind and generous
And she's here day by day
She'll be blamed for things she didn't do
She'll cry at night at truths untrue
But never will she be blue
The girl in grey

Nobody loves the girl in grey

The world is full

of daughters and sons

but royalty gets in the way

No one is born better

no better blood exists

no existing humans are more important than you

I am a daughter

my father is a son

we are all royalty with perfect blood

And all daughters are princesses

all sons are princes

whether it be the president's princess

the teacher's prince

the lawyer's princess

the single mother's prince

the janitor's princess

the performer's prince

or the oceanographer's princess

With different blood comes purity

Love's Tragic Ocean
Crissy Marx Mar 2015
They say only fools fall in love

so an idiot I am

to have fallen in love so young

and so fast

and so without a glance back.

Love's tragic ocean

has followed me around

for years

and I have stayed above water

because I will marry him

eventually.

I have known him for years

he is my friend

my brother

my partner in crime

and so I stay afloat

because I will marry him

eventually.

I have seen others drown in love

I have heard their screams.

They tried to cross the ocean

but then failed and stayed forever

on the sandy floor.

I wait for the day when his loved ones

will make it across

and he will await with open arms.

But the day is yet to come.

And so my heart beats on

and I dodge every wave

closer and closer

until one day

the sea will part

and he will give his heart

to me

A Penny a Day
Crissy Marx Nov 2014
An apple a day

doesn't keep the doctor away

but a doctor a day keeps the apples closer

and a penny saved isn't a penny earned

but a penny earned is a penny saved

I'm not trying to burst your bubble

I'm just trying to break the ice

I'm just trying to cut to the chase

an apple a day

doesn't keep the doctor away

and a penny saved isn't a penny earned

but a doctor a day keeps the apples closer

and a penny earned is a penny saved

early to bed early to rise

all depends on daylight savings

don't look a gift horse in the mouth

because

An apple a day

doesn't keep the doctor away

but a doctor a day keeps the apples closer

and a penny saved isn't a penny earned

but a penny earned is a penny saved

It's the elephant in the room

why, it's easy as pie

even though an apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away

those with money can afford a doctor and can eat apples

and if one earns money for a living

well that's cash right there that can be saved

for the future

an apple a day

doesn't keep the doctor away

and a penny saved isn't a penny earned

but a doctor a day keeps the apples closer

and a penny earned is a penny saved

Every cloud has a silver lining

It's not brain surgery

It ain't all that it's cracked up to be

Just keep on truckin

yes, please keep your shirt on

because money doesn't grow on trees

Go out on a limb

go earn that penny

go save that penny

because

An apple a day

doesn't keep the doctor away

but a doctor a day keeps the apples closer

and a penny saved isn't a penny earned

but a penny earned is a penny saved

and nobody wants Elvis to leave the building

Heroes

The story is known throughout the world
a broken family
the misunderstood offspring
it takes pure chance to become a father or mother
but being a dad or mom is the
hardest work of all
the problem with the world
is that no one understands one another
no one knows how to help each other
that's why relationships can fade
and lives end quicker than expected
and the solution of the problem
doesn't lie in the adults
the children are the only ones who can
terminate the errors of our ways
because if those children
see the youngest of children
having similar dilemmas
then the olders should aid the youngers
if the youngers are saved
the whole world will be in good hands

Another Dead Man Walking
Crissy Marx Sep 2014
Dead men walking
down the road at twilight
without a care in the world
or a sound
Beliefs seemed to falter
what others said mattered
the footprints trailing behind don't match their own
They speak with the same voice
they have the same mind
yet they had the chance to be different
Soon she will be one of them
as will he and his friend as well
Unified minds alike

Fear
Crissy Marx Sep 2014
Fear
creeping in
creeping out
pounding hard against the skull
building up
crying out
rising higher until full
creeping in
creeping out
seeping in
can't get out
fighting hard
standing strong
won't be long
until you win
creeping out

Can't or Won't
Crissy Marx Sep 2014
You say you can't fly

But have you ever tried?

You say you can't live

But still have yet to die

You say you can't smile

But the creases on your mouth say otherwise

You say you can't dream

Well, try for a while

You say you can't speak

But we've heard it before

You say you can't eat

But there's no full plate on the floor

You say you can't

You say you can't

We think it's that you won't

So can you?

The Age of Forgetting
Crissy Marx Sep 2014
She started so young

a flower

an angel

a mermaid

whatever she wanted to be

She cast charms

became a princess

rode a unicorn

had the perfect dresses

she saw what she wanted to see

He grew up the same way

a pirate

a warrior

a hero

the person he wanted to be

he slayed dragons

became a knight

ruled the kingdom

won a fight

He saw what he wanted to see

But then they grew older

the girl and the boy

and small things began to change.

There were no more kings

no more dragons and magical things

no more dreams that were yet to come true

No more brave and heroic knights

no more princesses ready to take flight

no more times that were sparkly and new

Because we all grow up

that's what's meant to be

and we all lead perfection away

The kids all learn

and sometimes yearn

to grow older and start a new day

But what we forget to do

when we think things through

is to ponder about what we used to be

When we were free

no responsibility

and happy endings were key
