Love In A Forest
If a tree falls in the forest, withering into nothingness, not once having any eyes laid upon it, did that beautiful piece of nature ever truly exist at all? I once loved in that way, dedicating my all to the beauty of love, only to never be seen. I gave up seasons of my life to those who were unable to do the same. Spring, the bloom of flowers, the softness of your name like petals unfolding. Summer, the warmth shining down, wrapping around you the way my arms longed to. Fall, the pieces of myself I let slip away, just to make more room for you. Winter, the chill in the air, sharpening the distance between us when you no longer answered my call. No eyes were laid upon it, no witness to what had bloomed, no memory left behind of the beauty we once held. If love is given wholly and fully, but is never truly received, never seen, never understood at its deepest level, did that love ever exist at all, or is it just a tree, endlessly falling in the forest of one’s heart?

- Children Fall Often -
Children fall often because they are looking up at the world around them, not at where they’re stepping. / Their knees scraped on concrete, tears drying into salt on small cheeks. A teacher crouches beside them, hands gentle, voice quiet. "You have to watch where you’re going, sweetheart." And the child nods, solemn and small, believing that the worst thing that could happen to them is a fall. / But the world changes shape around them. The floors become tiled, the doors heavier, the air thicker with warnings. Now, children fall not from clumsiness but from the speed at which a gunshot travels. The lessons they learn are no longer about letters or planets or how to apologize when you hurt someone’s feelings. They are about how to stay silent in the dark, how to hide behind desks, how to make themselves invisible.
