she sat like old smoke on the back of an elephant in the room.
like a dead wreath, breathing a pure circle
of hell. she broke a tambourine over the head
of a homeless man made of diamonds.
she broke his hardness with a constant sigh of sorrows
and chose to do violence upon her last smile
clutching the bitter rings in a porcelain
tub. brassy lion's paw
resting too heavy now on a cracked linoleum
floor.

with her eyes
open.

I wish I could sing better, as rooms
would crowd up just for my voice to fill
in the last possible spots and space. But
it's not my choice, envying those who

seem vocally perfect. I'll sing for myself
in corners of the world and I'll enjoy it
but the feeling that no one will ever
like the sound as much as a star's, breaks

more of my insides than my voice does
other people's ears. I'm not made
to sing, enchant your hearing, make you ling-
er, make you stare, make you dazzled with
confusion.

His voice, or hers, it makes me feel
these tingling sensations allover
the skin of my back, all my hairs rise.
I want to do that to the necks of listeners.

I lost so much, even this, even though
I never had it.
Make me humble again, return it.

I'll be lonely on my school ball,
I'll cry and watch some streams, making
their way wherever they want to.
But I can enjoy the sadness, I'm
getting used to being useless.
Do you wanna build a snowman?
The cold does bother me...

It's sad to think that I don't
Wince when I see his picture
I used to shatter at the thought
Of meeting his eyes
I wrote pages upon pages of
Words
That he never saw
And I don't know where
They even are at this point
And it's sad to think that I broke
His heart but then again
I never had the power
Over him to do so in the first place
It's sad to think that he's not
The same man he was back then
And I wonder if when he hugs
Me
He thinks about what he lost
But I'm sure he doesn't
That would be too hard for me
Yes, I'm still shaken up
About what he did to me
It was painful and I lost something
Then
I don't even know what to look for
Silence always seemed to hurt me
A little too much
And it seems to always find it's way
Back to me even when
I actually do love a person
And they love me
Silence always seems to find a way
To crowd into the spaces of my
Mind
And it's sad to think
That he threw away my poems.

Where are you?
Where are the people?

How are you?
How are the people?

What happened to you?
What happened to the people?

You've triggered all the switches ,
The whole world's watching you now

Come back home,
They're waiting for you

Come back home,
They need you

The world's scared for you,
The world's praying for you

Show us a way,
Lead us to you

We pray,
We hope,

Hand in hand,
*We're waiting to hear from you

the crisp, cool morning air glistens with dew
the tough ground beats rhythmically under my feet
the distinctive, calming smell of the salty sea air
and the beauty of everything
spurring me on
keeping me going

I am a guide to the labyrinth
Come & see me
in the green hotel
Rm. 32
I will be there after 9:30 p.m.

I will show you the girl of the ghetto
I will show you the burning well
I will show you strange people
haunted, beast-like, on the
verge of evolution

secret among us

Leaving the phone-booth, I was
Struck by a whiff of
the weird.
Insane old country woman
come to nag the haunts
of town
Hairy legs w/open sores.

From what swamp or under-rock
did you crawl to remind
us what we choose
to leave

Angel?

In That Moonlit Night Standing In The Abaft,
Watching The Towed Flaccid Wooden Raft,
I Thought That I Saw An Angel Resting,
Lying Exhausted There In That Craft.

I Call The Girl Out Unbeknownst Of Her Kind Name,
"Hey Young Lady!!" To Which She Didn't Much Respond,
She Looked Up Towards Me Once In Anguish & Collapsed,
I See Desperation In Her Amber Eyes & Resolve To Help Her.

The Crewmen Had Now Been Doing The Paddles After Resting,
I Summon My Captain & Ask, "Do You See That Girl In The Raft?"
The Senile Captain Smiles To Say, "Commodore, Better Get Married,"
I Look Just Clueless To Which He Simply Replies, "There Is No Girl."

True He Was As She Had Simply Disappeared,
I Started Thinking Of My Sleep Needs That Day,
I Looked Around Again In A Hope To Find The Girl,
I Had Compromised My Routine As The Commodore.

Then I Immediately Realized It Was My Wild Phantasm,
Now This Was Just A Plain Illusion Of A Tired Sailor's Mind,
No Mermaids Could Have Ever Existed In Reality & Were Fake,
I Turned Towards The Deck To Go Back To My Bunk For Sleeping.

As I Climbed Down The Stairs To Enter My Room Amazed & Dazed,
I Saw Her Standing And Waiting For Me By The Side Of My Bunk,
I Accepted That Delusion Of My Mind & Started To Lie Down,
She Said, "I'm As Real As Your Thoughts, Don't Fear Me."

She & I-Me & Her, Had The Best Time That Night,
In The Morning She Was Gone & Was Just Gone,
Disappeared Into Thin Air While I Was Asleep,
Each Day I So Dearly Long For Her To Return.
