Heaven faced
Angel of the night
Wings and all
Took me to Hesperides
Dropped me amongst the willows
I sang her songs
Mourned her sorrows
Got drunk on her words
Slept along the riverbank
Woke to the silence of winter
The lonely of the rain,
Wishing for your gentle wings
To take me once more
Once more

Back over seas
What a nightmare of a memory
Making mountains of men
What dust I have become
Such a parasite of a man
I've come to this land
Sold it my innocence
There is not enough person
Left in this body,
To make it back home
Juice

Who is your god?
How can I make you cry out Amen?
In the most sinful exhale

It begins with
nervous laughter,
creaking springs,
builds to
loud supplications
to Jesus and God,
ends in final
melting moans.

Funny how little
the notes vary;
more classical
than baroque;
more advertising
jingle than
hallelujah.

The simple sounds
of who we are,
where we come from,
what we do
to each other

played on mortal organs
by ardent amateurs,
overheard through
thin motel walls.
