I told you a
while ago that I listen to sad music
when I'm happy
and happy music when I'm sad,
but my friend,
that simply is not true.

at the time I believed it,
because, to put it simply,
I was in a numbing state of sadness,
emptiness and drug use.
But oh God how happy you make me
and how happy I've been.

Now, with a sober mind
and I happy heart I realize
that I wasn't happy,
but I listened to sad music so I could be sad.
Let me explain;
I went to school (high)
and needed to appear happy
so nobody would question my heart.
It's something I learned when I was alone
and had nobody to question my heart.
and then when people started coming back into my life
I wasn't able to stop.
I put on a mask,
smiling,
constantly smiling,
joking, smoking,
loving.
and i only took it off when I was alone,
listening to my music
about love's lost
and hope's crushed.

The truth is that you make me happy,
I'm not wearing a mask,
and I haven't listened to Bright Eyes in weeks.

Six years old and we thought we knew
How it would all turn out
But Prince Charming doesn't
Go through hell to find us
He doesn't love us more
Because we're not completely human
The beasts don't transform
Just because we love them
One kiss doesn't awaken us
We're never rescued from the Gustavs
The Jafars
Or the wicked witches
And there are never any happily ever afters

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine

My land has been ripped.
Its seeds trapped beneath
cinders of ash and rock.
Its root suffocating.
Its branches
no longer branches,
and its buds weeping
somewhere along the edge
of heaven looking
down upon bent cities
mourning those whose
flesh are screaming
to kiss the innocent
skin-like fingernails
of newborn children who
have been burned to death.

And the children!
Oh! The children!
They are sealed within
the winds that dance along
Lebanons green motherly lands
as the embers and crumbs whistle
an eerie tune through the
emptiness of the streets;
My heart is burning with
the souls that have died
a thousand different ways.

Somewhere over the mounds
of Lebanon, souls
that once breathed her air full
of joyous pride, clutch
to the sadness and adorn her
in prayer.

I believe with all that I believe that
somewhere deep within the forests
of her beauty,
Lebanon is smiling
awaiting rejuvenation,
awaiting a nation
dancing in
illumination

One day we will open
our dead eyes and find
that the capital of heaven is
Beirut.
Finally salvation.

You were always in and out of my life like night and day

until i finally gave you up and you decided America

wasn’t for you so you flew back home living 7 hours

into the future ahead of me.

Sometimes i wonder if you did that just to torture me.

When we were together we were so full of life

it was as if we were the only two existing in the present time.

you have taught me that.

that it is wise to live in the present moment

but after you left I’ve been a foolish girl living in the past and future with your ghosts.

i cant stand at the thought that the sun rises with me

way before it even sets with you

at least if the sun rose here the same time it set over there

it would be like those brief passionate moments that you

were in and out of my life (like night and day)

Scribblin, writin, back of the class.
Going through life way too fast.
Never finish in first, I always end up last.
Need to stop reminiscing on the past.

No one believes.
The things I have achieved.
Time to work, roll up my sleeves.
Life is just death's reprieve.

Never doubt one's soul.
Life's a highway, **** the tolls.
You always reap what you sow.
This time I've hit a new low. Just need to take it slow.

i love the way you hold my hand so tight
like if you let go, i'll be gone forever
and the way i can't tell if it's your palm sweating or mine
i love that i don't mind

i love the way your voice sounds after you kiss me
breathy and soft, and nervous
almost shaky
you remind me what it's like to be fifteen again

i love how delicately you touch me
like i'm something precious, something treasured
something breakable
because i am

i love how you say "i'm yours" instead of "you're mine"
because you understand that love and possession aren't the same
and i have every part of you as you have, me
forever and ever, "and ever and ever and ever"

i love the way your hands shake when they touch my cheek
the way your fingers tremble as they hover above my skin
how you hesitate before every move you make
like you're scared to mess up, like i'm something you can't risk losing

the only thing i don't love
is that i can't manage to spit out the only words
that occupy my mind when i'm with you
"i love you"
