In Dreams
Jen Jan 2019
Warm breezes in the night air
Whisper away every nightmare
Stars above in heaven's depths
Blink freely in the dark
Glowing with every promising spark
And during rest in dreams we see
The unreal and our thoughts are set free
To drift and live in sleep
And experience everything so deep
Sometimes waking, wishing you were still there
All that you can do is remember, and keep it near
Unearthly as it seems
Our souls are connected in dreams

Unicorn
Jen Jul 2018
Whirlwind,
Sky is grey,
Then the sun
      Emerges some,
And it’s a beautiful day.
Windows down,
Listening to
That song,
The one that’s
Always on.
Makes me think
Of an idea,
Ever fleeting…

Long lost melody,
Repeating…
Emotions always bleeding.

Ending
        Before
             Beginning.
Vertical lines,
Confine
Trees of shadowy green.
Sidelines to the street.

Waiting for
A unicorn,
To appear.

Maybe you’re right.
There is no such thing,
In this life
As fantastical tales
Come to life,
Because there is always
A dark side
We hide.

Picnic
Jen Dec 2018
Clear day—
Lavendar meadow stretches for miles.
Partly cloudy, no chance of rain.
The sun peaks out just enough
To light a field of golden grain.
I’m comfortable here,
In a summer dress,
Blanket on the ground,
Picnic set;
I look around,
And there you are,
Walking towards me
On this dreamlike day.

Stardust
Jen Aug 2018
Limitless.

This world
Is going
To One day-
Leave behind
Dust
Converged with
The universe.

Stars exploding,
Their flesh
imploding,
With ours.

We'll still be alive,
In another form of life.

Once dreamed
An island
Where
Aqua blue
Surrounded,
So quiet.

If you
Stepped
Far down
Into the sand,
You would discover
Stairs leading to
The Sea Floor-
Breathing in,
One last time.

Merely
Water,
Looking up,
You
Discover
That you
Are in control,
Not drowning...
No longer
Weighted,
Free
To swim up
To the
Line
Where
The air
fills your
Lungs once more.

Nothing
We fear
Will
Matter,
When
We
Become
Stardust.

Stardust covering all particles.
Stardust in the air.
Stardust everywhere.

Firefly
Jen Jul 2018
Passing through thick and thin, only
To be brought back to a far-off cry.
Don’t worry, this shall pass with time.
It flies fast with life’s distractions nearby.

Taking flight on tattered wings—
How sweet, the angels sing in harmony.
Their songs we will never know, so pure.
Untarnished in their world untouched.

Disconnected, wires and airwaves on fire.
A teardrop now unknown to cold souls,
It is easy to succumb to the robotic routine,
Life’s expectations drill us to our cores, unseen.

The touch of a hand is becoming
A cumbersome and time-consuming task,
A soft kiss no longer holds much meaning
In this plastic, pornographic societal *******,
We live in.

One day, will true love be a myth as
Onlookers sit and view a big screen
Unable to comprehend what it means?
To hold someone close, hearts beating deep.

Curtains close, black-sky-lined entertainment,
As they drive home to all the world’s last diamonds,
Embedded stones and gold of the earth,
Resources completely depleted.

Synthetic. Material. Superficial. Pasted. Plastered.
Artificial.  Numb. Cold. Materialistic.  Empty.

Words whisper throughout the day,
As if a shield and armor bringing about
A spiritual message through a voyage
Speaking to a place that feels so real,
Untouched like a firefly let go from
A glass jar meant to climb high to heaven.

When here
In "Poetry Land,"
I am traveling
To distant worlds
Of the imagination
Unending,
Mystical and Exotic.

When here
In the "Real World,"
I am a single, childless
Woman.
Mid-thirties;
Two cats.
Misunderstood,
Unconventional.

I lost my glasses
This morning.
Suddenly I'm back
In highschool,
"In my mind."
Remembering all
The times
I taped them;
Tried many types:
Scotch, Masking, Packing.

Luckily, In my adult life
I'm now prepared.

I dig under my bed
For my "back-up pair."

Checked every corner
Of my small studio
To find that my spectacles,
Just like lost socks,
Have vanished
To Neverland.

Egg
You give me simple pleasure,
As I bite into your inner layer.
I love you in the morning
In between a bagel,
Sometimes with bacon.

In the afternoon,
By a salad’s side you sit,
With my favorite edibles-
Arugula, red peppers, fresh peas,
Black and green olives,
Topped with chicken, cheese,
Sesame vinaigrette, and,
A few croutons for crunch.

You are an Egg, but so much more.

The texture and depth of your yolk,
Sublime and sumptuous;
Your outside solid, yet undefined;
Balancing textures with what’s inside.

Egg,
You are truly
Divine.

Supernova
Jen Dec 2018
For a short time,
Supernova outshines galaxies;
It explodes and
Imprints images
Across Andromeda's face,
Overexposed across its gaze,
Blinds & Spills in all directions,
Up & Up. Down & Down. Around & Around.

I’d drag these regrets to the far-off reaches,
Just to be left speechless,
As we watch it outshine the Sun,
I would.

I forgive you, and myself too.
It was supernova, not meant to live
Long.

Forgiveness
Is like a Nebula’s Kiss,
It gives birth to new life
And leaves the past behind.

A star dies in supernova flame,
And the view from here is spectacular,
Don't miss it.
This poem is a reflection on past relationships with friends and lovers that did not last and the importance of forgiveness and moving on with your life after "the blast" of the supernova, as a relationship dies.  We must remember, that although some stars die, others are meant to be reborn in  Nebula.

Waterfalls
Are
A Magnificent
Force of Nature,
Formed over
Softness,
And Hard rock-
Creating
New life,
And it
Flows down
And continues
All the time.

There is
A mysticism
That surrounds-
Standing
Behind
It as it
Rushes down
To the bottom;
And wouldn’t
It be surreal;
And, I wonder
What it would
Be like to be
That water
In another life,
Becoming alive
In another form,
Resplendence,
Shining
Forever.

The wind
Carrying
You,
In this life
And the next one...

Don’t be afraid,
I dreamed this.

299 792 458 m / s,
The speed of light
Continues
To move this
Ship From the
Top
To
The
Bottom
Of a Galaxy.

They say it is possible
To travel
It in
100,000 years;
However, it would take
Trillions of years
To complete the task
To get there,
Through the
Central Plane-
Come on,
Then let us go.

What would it look like...
From the inside,
Traveling
To the other side,
Surpassing
Space and Time…?

Chills run up
Your spine.

To go any further
Would be impossible.

This trip is
Completely
Off the grid
And
Out of reach,
Unless
Scientists
Reach a breakthrough,
So
Evolutionary.

Will we ever see it?
Most likely, never.

Darkness has the same
Speed as light,
And this leads me to
Think that
They are fighting
All the time.

Glowing:
In
The
Dim
Abyss.

Breaking a barrier-
Only to be
Meshed together.

Holding your soul,
Close to your body.

Rolling, rolling, rolling...
To where?

Towards
Undetectable

Unending,
Then crystalizing
Over sudden sunsets,
Infinitely,
Across the horizon.

Moving towards
Abstractions
Faster,
As concrete
Fails to set
Within them.

Swept up
On the stairwell
Of a helix,
Waiting to
See where
It ends.

Caught up
In the never-ending
Space of Obscurity
That sometimes seems
Forbidden.
This poem might not appear to make sense at first.  It came to me as a visual image that suddenly popped into my head as I was thinking about how I feel about a life situation that I've struggled with for a while. It actually has dual meanings as after I wrote it some subcontious thoughts also surfaced.  I've heard poetry is good therapy and believe it. So the inspiration came as the sun started to go down as it does now at 4pm.  I was thinking about a piece of life, closed my eyes and saw myself exposed and naked laying in a dark, empty space. Then I realize it, and so my entire being rolls itself up in a cocoon for protection to find that my mind is very abstract and struggles in this concrete world, especially around a lot of people who are very concrete and black & white thinkers. It's time to find a new field but it seems like a big leap. Just thoughts and visualizations put to words....

The pigeon will sing,

Whether we want
To, or not.
I don’t want to know,

Embrace the earth
Sweetly,

Dark Fairy Tale
Jen Dec 2018
It all started
So light,
Until I heard
A voice barely say,
“Welcome to the Dark Fairy Tale,
Run for your life."

Then these thoughts
Crossed my mind,
The warning signs
Were all there,
I should have turned
Back at the masquerade ball;
Pulled off the mask,
Face revealed,
Smell of her
Perfume in
Your hair.

Kept the truth
Locked up with
Gingerbread
And sparkle dust,
"Love."

Trapped
In a toxic tale;
Couldn't sleep,
The Gothic prince
Took my hand
So charmingly,
And said, "Come with me..."
He spun me round' and
Swept me off my feet,
Until I fell to the
Floor and couldn't
See.

Cinderella Dream;
Coated with Candy Cream,
It was all fun and games,
Until I realized his
Premeditated plans
To take away
All the best parts
Of me.

Poison apple
Portrayal
Forever
Frozen in
Glass frame
Would be
An unlikely
Ending.

Take my hand

If you lose your grip

All you’ll have to do is look for my ship
It spills sparks as it sails across the view
They trail the sky to lead me back to you

Follow them when you are lost at sea
We’ll be weightless together once more

I saw the word "Zero Gravity" somewhere a few days ago, and I was determined to include it in a poem.

In the future not far; Traces fill the spaces
That hold your heart back as if paralytic.
Become resistant, To feel alive in life here.
If only to replay the best yesterdays;
When tomorrow is clean-slated fate,
Today is an oil smudged rainy sidewalk,

Walk Home
Jen Dec 2018
The day is done—
Clock strikes 4pm,
And it’s time to walk home, again.
It’s raining and cold.
I lock up my desk,
And head to the elevator
Ready to leave, say goodbye to this place;
Down 34 floors, exit to pavement’s freedom;
I pass the larger than life
Plato blue abstract statue,
Cardio up the hill,
Sadly, smell human waste
Coming from a small enclave
Of trees, where the homeless sleep.
I usually hold my breath and count my blessings.
I realize that any of us might easily become homeless.
I am grateful for my life and a place that keeps its warmth.
Then, I walk across the bridge,
Rush hour traffic stalled like a clogged artery.
Many cars, lights, and skyscrapers line the distance.
I like to think of the city as a heart in human body,
And the closer you get to its core, you can hear its blood flow.
Once past this point, I feel I can breathe again as the cells
Spread out more to my neighborhood, gentrified;
Pass the latest construction with a sign that displays,
“Affordable Housing for All.”
I have yet to see it.
Marijuana streams drift out windows,
There's the school overlooking to mountain's peak;
Just three more cross walks and I’ll be home, free.

Lost, you're lost?

Walk in the dark?
In the park...
Your loss,
When it comes

Wanting a fantasy
To bring bliss,
In this real life.
All you want
To do
Is “Play.”
Then you vanish, always.

Clear azure
Throughout,
It’s like the
Sun won’t sink
Into this soft
White sheet
As it floats
On a breeze
Hanging up on
Invisible Fishing Line,
And all I can see
Is a tunnel on it,
Upon it,
Shining partially in,
Not penetrating.

I can’t see
Through to you,
Past apathy,
Words fading,
Never truthful.

Keeping me on
Your hook,
With a worm
Filled with
False promises
Fading with time.

Holding the reins,
That lead to
Empty ends
And “Play-Pretends,”
Forgotten…
Trying so much
To dissolve
This Tunnel Vision,
To see past
You.

You’re the muse,
I can’t let go.

Untamed and Unfolding
Invisibly,
Hidden with false smiles.

Unrevealed,
So much concealed,
And that isn’t how it should
Be.

WARNING SIGN.
SAVE YOURSELF.
RUN.

No one on the outside
Ever knew what
Was hidden beneath.

ALL IS SUNNY
ON THE EXTERIOR
OF A WHITE WOODEN FENCE.

Rain poured continuously,
BEHIND THE CAGE.

Is this the life you want?

ASK YOURSELF.
I DID.

Instability lingering like a wet sleeve,
No rain coat could ever repel…so you just grieve.

Sitting in the dark,
Feeling, breathing…
To be real.
Are we ever?

SCORNED FOR FEELING.
EXCUSE ME FOR LIVING,
BREATHING.

NO LONGER,
Felt like a human being.

Cracked eggshells line
A spotless floor.

Just me in the stillness,
Always.

When do you really find
What so many others
Seem to hold near?

This is the only place
To truly just let go
And be…
Releasing in poetry.

Love it when
The rain pours
In the middle of the night,
Used to walk on wet concrete
In the dark of night,
Looking up at stars
On an all-to-clear night.

You were there,
But I always felt alone.

Watched the house lights of
The place we shared…
In the distance
As you continued your passions
For hours,
Didn’t look up once-
Notice that I walked
Out the front door
Right next to you.
Did you forget that
Something was missing?

Just me.

A PERSON.
MADE INTO A THING.
As you played the
Good guy,
With lies told to friends and family
As I sat silently
Trying not let it affect me.

The funny thing is,
It didn’t shake me
When it ended.

I FELT AND FEEL
NOTHING.
NO SADNESS.

FREE.
SIX sleepless months
Where I feared
You would find me.

Now, I try to tell myself
That not every man
Is like you…
That is the only
Sadness I feel.
This poem is basically a reflection of a toxic relationship I was in for 8 years.  Real feelings released...

All You Wanted

They want to form you,
Take away your, mind.
Blind you to what’s deep down,
Living inside.
So caught up in it all,
Before you know it,
It’s gone.
All you wanted was that topaz ring,
All you wanted was that house and everything,
All you wanted was that wedding dress to impress the crowd,
All you wanted was that image of what you thought your life, should be.
When all you needed was love,
Those moments you couldn’t buy back with any amount of gold.
It’s easy to think these things will bring happiness to your life,
But they never do.
The greatest gifts are free to give, yet they are becoming Extinct.
A lasting embrace, a smile that can’t be erased,
Human touch and raw
Emotion when unselfish and giving, a kiss blown as more than Expression,
Awaking from this daze and wanting more than what is depicted,
True love for ratings, highly overrated.

More and more...
Her wings
Separated
Naturally
On a
Hot, summer day;
No more.

Chrysalis faded,
As she surged
Forth,
Monarch landed,
On what was
The caterpillar's
Sustenance,
It once nourished
New life.

Short lived
In stages,
Then:
Winter's face emerged,
Early that year.
We saw our
Breath in
The air,
"Look,
What is there?"

Behind the
Frozen Lake,
"Here lies
The Monarch.
May she rest in peace."

Motionless in an
Icy tomb,
It looked like
She was captured,
For nature's
Museum
Across
A flower' s
Bloom.

No longer
Gliding-
Only to die
In the blink
Of an eye.

Our time here,
Doesn't last long.

Say no more...

Is she somewhere
Flying?
Bright and Free,
Dancing in
A world
Beyond belief?

Say no more.

We all see
Through
A different lens.

His is winter
As he paints snow-
Theirs is different
Since surviving
The war; Different
Each day.
Hers right now,
Is magical
As the wind blows
And colors
Impose
On her fate
Unknown.

Stations
Changing
Constantly,
In these
Realities.

In my head,
Yours,
It is all in
Our heads.

Glimpse
Jen Nov 2018
I’ve come to know
That this much is true…
I am a living ghost,
Weighted by
Invisible rusty, chains
And cursed as if
Crossing over
To another life;
Walking through
The city near the old hospital;
Crossing the street,
Something feels
So, familiar here.
As if a portal,
Only I can see;
But, to where?
It draws me near.
Moving forward, falling back, moving forward, falling back;
A pendulum swings between both eyes,
Hypnotically.
Small glimpses of heaven
Brought to life in this one;
I chose to separate from it;
Yet, it will always
Be there waiting
If I make the choice
To give my entirety to
The spiritual side.

I am human and flawed though.
I am scarred a sinner.
I am holding heaven while creating Winter.
This poem came to me tonight a couple hours after waking from a dream. I took a nap and usually I'm not a napper but was exhausted from not sleeping much the night before and was drenched in rain from my walk home today, took a shower, turned the space heater on, had mashed potatoes and meatballs, and then passed out to a meditation video playing only to awaken with one of my furry friends laying on me (Raven cat).  This poem just came to me like most do.  It is difficult to explain, but relates to some spiritual experiences I've had and the "tug and pull" involved with becoming closer to the light and then falling back to human and material world.  The hospital I mention is one I would walk past on my way to and from work over the summer, and every time I would get the most haunting feeling as if I had been there in another life.

Love Erased
Jen Mar 2019
Time flew by
When you
Placed your hand
In mine.
A smile
Would remain
The whole time.
Nothing could erase it.
Nothing in this life.
My fingers danced
On yours,
And suddenly
Darkened skies
Said goodbye,
Sunlight out shined
Shadows.
The next moment,
I felt
Your comforting
Embrace
& love erased
Everything
I once knew,
Here in this place.

Go There
Jen Oct 2018
It’s not clear to see-
So, let’s finally go there,
You and me.

Now,
In this present time,
Is this finally happening?

It started as
Something imaginary…

You constantly
Aroused me with
Your intelligence.
Sapiosexual Sublime,
Suggestions and
Stimulating Conversations.

So, hidden in the
Painted Aspen trees
Imprinted on these
Sheets, only present
In Sweetly Torturing Dreams,
When you sneak up quietly,
Behind me,
And let’s just pretend
It’s innocent,
And let’s just barely
Touch,
Our bodies naked
Like lumbered pines,
Your hands warm,
Caressing my thighs,
From behind
Hidden vines
And unspoken
Notions
Needing No Words,
Just motion.

You play with my hair,
Like you said you would,
And in return I
Run my fingers
Through yours,
And just stare assured.

We combine our
Bodies and Minds.
Let’s go there
In real life.
Slow and cognizant,
Connecting underneath
A Blanket drenched
With what started
As “Hello,”
It now reverberates
Out an open window,
Disturbing the neighbors
Below.
Listening to “Kerala” by Bonobo (Music is inspiring)

Crimson

Her lips
Touch paper cup,
To form paper cut.
Reach
For First aid kit
Fast,
Forewarning.

As the blood
Runs down,
To form lava flow,
It glistens
With crimson glow,
She feels alive.

The Fight (For Good)
Jen Feb 2019
Do you ever
Fight an uphill
Battle, so steep
Keep moving
Your feet, it’s
One where you
Keep fighting
Until you have
No more strength
You give up
In that moment
So, you move on
Learn to choose
Your battles
Live to fight
Another day
Keep fighting
For good
Only that
For good

It'll Be
Jen Dec 2018
Here, one day we’ll meet.
It’ll be the first time,
To catch your glance.
It’ll be the first time,
To touch your hand.
Do happy endings
Really exist?
Would you wait for me?
For the second
We meet?
It’ll be the first time,
To hear your laugh.
I’ll be the first time,
To say hello forever.
You’ll be the one to
Stay by my side
Until the end of
Our time
Together.
This poem is one  that describes what many can relate to... waiting to meet that person that will complete your life, the one.  I'm still young, almost 36, but sometimes it feels like a lot of my friends and family have found their partners in life.  It is easy to get discouraged, but don't lose hope!  People meet their matches every day... tomorrow is a new day full of possibilities. <3

Fire and Ice
Jen Jan 2019
I want to hide,
Behind the warmth
Of your smile.

In a world,
That at times,
Seems
Made of ice,
Do you think
There's a chance,
We could
Light a fire
Tonight?
cold days, cold nights, warm words, and a fire ablaze...

Neural Bridges

Sickened
In the bones,
Aching,
And sore.

Crying
Uncontrollably,
Asking,
"What for?"

Laughing
Without
End,
At other times.

Fled
From the rush,
Attempting
To overcome it.

In the beginning,
Dopamine
And Oxytocin
Lined a glass ledge
Like Sugar and Salt.

Naturally produced,
Lost
Clear sight.

Shortly later,
Norepinephrine
Drenched
And dried
On the string
Of a kite,
Then took
Flight.

Stones
Jen Aug 2018
Stones,
Upon
The shore.

Shimmering,
So pure.

They pick
You up
All day
Then toss
You
Out to
The
Ocean's
Floor,
With
A single
Motion.

Listening
To
Waves,
Forever
An orchestra
Of their own.

Ocean.

Dip your
Toes,
In the
Ocean.

Stones
Are
Made
Of
Hard
Matter.

They
Don't
Shatter
Like
The
Flawed
Imperfection
Of
The
Human Condition.
If only we could be like stones, so tough and strong, yet we are human in all our fragility.

Is so many things
Right now
To me
It's watching my
Sweet baby
Kitties
Dora and Raven
Sleep

They are curled
Up & comfy
Warm and
Snugly

I'll always
Be their
Protective
Mama
& they
Love
Unconditionally

The Sticks
Jen Jan 2019
It’s a quiet night in the sticks,
So hot and humid, shirts are drenched
And every movement leads to pure
heat exhaustion, sweat trickles down
foreheads and the fans just
Don’t cool when the air is filled
With heavy moisture and good ole’
Southern Sweet Tea can only do
So much to save your poor soul
And bless your heart and say your
Prayers and be sure to never swear
Dogs are barking louder than ever
As they chase a leaving pickup down
A dirt road named “Desire.”
Childhood memories of visiting my grandparents who lived in the sticks... I'm not sure why I decided to name the dirt road "Desire," it just felt right.

Beautiful Soul
Jen Feb 2019
You have a beautiful soul
It's been beaten
Tortured and tamed
Don’t hide it
You have a beautiful soul
Living inside
Let it out
Let it shout
Don’t
Let it hide
Let your inner beauty
Shine out

Dots
Jen Dec 2018
Night falls, magical
Dust in-between
The dim and The End,
Flies weightless and
Careless,
Canary cloudland
Carries the
Dots in flight, existing
Here nor there,
Their flicker
Absent
As the day
Is swept away.

It escapes.
