Reconnecting
Pamela Chan Dec 2018
Focus on my breathing
In and out
I can hear the air flow
I can see the sky so high
Like a very accommodating blanket
Dark yet not scary.  Without stars.
Hand on my heart
I am reconnecting with myself
When was the last time
I visit myself? Asking ‘how are you?’
For so long I have been taken myself for granted
To live for their acceptance
Siblings, colleagues, friends and bosses
When was the last time I treat myself kind?
Just like a best friend, telling her ‘You are doing fine’
When suppressed tears drop
It’s a caring comfort!
Me with myself.
Seize the moment.

In a Vacuum
Pamela Chan Dec 2018
Left right up down
Zoom in zoom out
Punch!
A slight expression of
Satisfaction
Just press the button
In a vacuum
No need to listen
No need to respond or react
In order to be correct
in a vacuum
The mind pulls itself away from worries
The heart stops worry
In a vacuum
0300 in the morning
Too tired to mumble
Just four hours to go
Back to reality
Eyes close
Must take a nap
Cyber Let’s meet again tomorrow.

It Never Hurts
Pamela Chan Dec 2018
It’s easy to smile and go with the flow
So they will see you as one of their own
It’s easy to say what they want to hear
So they will see you as their peer
It’s easy for you to turn a blind eye
To twisted minds and crooked souls
Just to survive in the jungle
God knows what the price we have paid
Where have all the kindness gone?
A heart of gold
A genuine soul
Is it too much to ask for
May not be easy
and maybe even a bit lonely
But it never hurts
To show some empathy.

In the split of a second
In the tunnel of life
We encounter
Seeing eye to eye
When strange things happen
With cheeky smiles
Mutual clicks
When the rest of the crowd
Don’t have a clue
When I am in the blue
You listen with soothing patience
But you always tell me the truth
To wake me up from my self obsession
When I achieve you are happy
When I am down you worry
What’s more to ask
But to be grateful
To have you,
My best friend
In life.
