Women like you
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
Women like you are.... The mothers of the stars
Who bring light upon us.
Children of battle fields
Who teach us to blossom
In our storms.
sisters of the moon
Who hold our crowns
From slipping.
The daughters of the seas
Who teach us to swim
Away from the world
That drowns us .
A Friend of every flower
Who remind us of our beauty.
The lover of the wind who
Teach us to fly and become
Our own heroes.
Souls of the ground
That teach us to
Grow from beneath
The dirt.
Women like you are..
Extraordinarily beautiful
And hard to find

My mother
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
Like the wind in early spring,
she caressed my soul with her tears.
Kissed away my fears.
Welcomed me into a unknown world
With her heart tucked under my covers.
I opened my eyes and fell in love at first sight.
She was like the wind in early spring and
I was the flower sprouting beneath her feet.
She wore a scent of happiness that made me
Smile at first glance.
I knew this woman would be the light
In my darkness forever
I couldn't place her in my heart
Because hearts change
I couldn't live without her
So she became my breath
'Cause she's the warmest
Thing I'll ever find"

Unsuccessful love
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
You say ' I love you'
Like it's gonna stop
The storms you've created
In me.

You say ' I miss you'
Like it's gonna
Bring back the
Light that once
Ignited in me.

And you say ' I'm sorry'
but
My tears have sung
A painful song on
Their way to the cold
Floor too many times
And  I'll no longer
Shed like the trees
In autumn.

         At least the leaves in
          autumn are colorful while
my tears are just a dull grey
of what use to be our love

Our love resembles the love
between the Ground and the sky

When i am the ground
You water my roots
To wash away the
Sadness that lives
Between my lips

When you're the sky
I will  convey the petals
From the flowers in my
Heart so they can bring
Color upon the giants
That stand behind your
happiness holding  it hostage.

Let's nurture our love
No matter what comes
Between us, just like the
Ground and the sky
So it can blossom into
A sea of perpetual
Light.

He.
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
He.
When I'm the wide open sea.
He is the birds that fly above me.

Gracefully disseminating his warmth
Across my forgotten heart.

Teaching it to fly with all its might.
Giving it courage and a little light

To make it through the storms that
Sprout In my clouds of passion.

Empty soul
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
Her eyes once sparkled like the
pavement after  a rain storm

Now they've become void
Like an  abandoned  house
In the middle of the woods

The flowers her mother grew
Under her eyes have withered

And a raging storm has superseded
The soft gleaming tears her laughter brought

no body tried to understand her 'cause
She had a body filled with scars and a mind
Filled with darkness

She wore nothing but sadness around her neck, above her feet and beneath her wrists

So she planted flowers in her that
Brought a breeze of blissful light to the
Dark valleys in her soul where sadness dwelled

She had to **** it with happiness
Before it killed her

To the beautiful you
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
You just want to be happy
You get hurt, people leave you
You crave love, you cry over pictures
You just want to be loved by a lover

You don't see the garden that grows
Deeper than the eyes can find it

The world doesn't deserve you
It's doesn't know how much you grew

Its blind to your beauty and
What you've been through

Don't lose yourself in its views

Because darling,
You are you
Beautiful.
Unlike any I've
Ever seen.

My dear you're like a wave
Some days you might
Hit the rocks but
Believe me a day
Will come where you
Dance with the breeze
And shine with the stars
At night.

I might be just plain "black" to you but there is more to my color.
-
For I am the night sky
That kisses the earth
In its sleep.
-
I'm loved by the man in the moon
And the tides during a  midnight breeze.
-
"Beautiful" doesn't justify the way my soul glows in the darkest Corners of the seas.
-
"Strong" doesn't justify my heart that has been
Dipped in a pit of white folk's laughter -
-
Freedom was once the man dressed in white
Who came to hand me hope in my nightmares
-
So when freedom finally walked into my life
With its own feet, who are you to try and put me through it all again. -
Who are you?
To make me feel ashamed of my past.
To skepticize my ancestors.
They aren't to be taken lightly as a feather
For they have fought through years that
Felt as heavy as boulders, not just on their shoulders but in their hearts.
-
Who are you?
To say "******"
Like you have the right
When all you did was
Add more tears to their
Days that reeked of blood.
-
Please tell me who you are
AND WHAT RIGHT YOU HAVE.

Shattered
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
your life, to me is art
So open up your heart.

Because I intend
To fill every crack
With Love

That will run through
Your veins so when
You spill your hurt
On paper, the ink
Will dance with
Your thoughts

To remind you how
Beautiful, strong, resilient,
Powerful you are.

To remind you that
You are poetry

Mother land
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
they call me their mother land
But they've fled across the world
And forgot to lend me a hand.

Forgotten like a past lover
As if I've broken them
My heart screams
For peace for I
Dream of a tomorrow
Where I recover

A few of my petals may
have withered or wilted
But hope still stands
Strong in my roots
Regardless of this
World that's tilted

My streats flooded by tears
And hearts taken by fears

Bodies laying on my skin in
an endless coma
Tired souls roaming
Around for a unknown aroma.

the sky no longer cries of happiness
And the ground shakes with fear
War has taken the sweetness
From my children's heart
And left it with bitterness

I hear their prayers from time to time
And I pray for the fools who
Have lived for such crime

My heart awaits for a day where
My children remember their roots
And come together as one.

A day where  I wear peace
Across my soul and I'm
No longer the forgotten one.

You've told me flowers don't just grow
That they need lots of rain and sunshine

Why didn't I believe you
When you told me don't
Become blinded by light.

I took your love for granted
For it came in storms

And took their love as home
For the sun shined brighter there.

You taught me that darkness
Is the absence of light

But when they left me in the dark
My heart glowed with the love you
Planted in me so I never felt alone.

You taught me a lot but forgot one thing,

That love

Is you.

Soulmate
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
You gazed at the darkness
That surrounded me but
You didn't run away like
Everyone else, you told
Me " I love the night sky
With its stars and all but
I love this more because
You can be the star that
Lights up your heart,
You just need someone to
inspire you to find that light"

And in an instant tears soaked
My soul and I heard a beautiful
Sound, the child in me laughing.

You helped me find that light.
The smile of the child in me.

You inspired me to see the
Beauty in the way I stood, the
Way my petals withered, the
Way I shined.

In a world full of roses,
You picked me and made
Me feel like i was the most
beautiful daisy you've ever seen

She became friends with the sun on her skin.
To teach her how to rise from within.

She hides behind timid smiles and soft frowns
But she's what paints the earth The richest browns.

She's got hair that teaches her how to stand tall
And lips that utter " you're beautiful over all"

I've heard people say that there's no beauty in her shade.
But if from morning till dawn her beauty doesnt fade, what beauty does she need when she's god-made?

If you really look on days Where the sun shines bright
You might just see her soul glowing in a honey dipped light.

Black beauty
Aisha Yusuf Apr 2017
Every night My skin cleanses
Itself In streams of the blood
And sweat my ancestors
Shed.

Reminding it's roots,
Our color is worth way more
Than anyone's comfort.

My lips kiss the surface
of our universe that
Knows nothing about
divergence every
morning before the
sun rises.

whispering in its ears
" beauty lies on the tip
of your tongue and it waits
every night for you to
taste its sweetness"

My hair finds its beauty tangled
In the fingers of the rays of the
Moonlight and not in the corners
Of the mirrors set out by society

I'm the browns of our
Earth. I'm black beauty
That dresses this
dull world In color

Parts of me
Aisha Yusuf Jul 2017
Deep within me lives a being
confined By the rules of a
World unknown.

I utter the words "I am being my self"
But in reality that's what I struggle
To find in every  path.

like the waves that meet the sand
Under the light of the gleaming moon,

Every part of me craves to be with  the
Other part that makes it whole
Like the thorns that make
A rose complete.
