Unpolished Gem
Similoluwa Jan 2015
Just because they don't wolf whistle when you enter a room
Doesn't mean you're ugly, they're just oblivious to your beauty
The fact that you think differently
Doesn't mean you're dumb, your intellect is simply extraordinary
Dear friend, don't throw it all away
All because of some unfortunate soul who didn't ask you to stay
They're the one's missing out, because they refused to dig through all the trash
To find the treasure.
One man's trash is another man's treasure :)

Sweet sixteen,
What's so sweet about being sixteen?
My year of fearlessness, of jubilee,
Of new beginnings
And staying true to me

Over and Over
Similoluwa Dec 2014
As he whispers his undying love
Over and over
His colorful eyes penetrate my soul
And I am taken back to the memories
Of when we first met
Oh, how I hated him!
But slowly and surely,
He broke through the walls of my heart.

Over and over,
I tried to tell myself
That I didn't hear
The rush of butterflies in my stomach
Whenever he was near
And that I didn't feel
The energizing sparks
Whenever our skin collided

As time went on,
Over and over,
Our chance encounters proved me wrong, because indeed
Each time I laid my eyes on him,
I fell deeper and deeper in love with him,
Over and over and over again.

Hopeless Romantic
Similoluwa Nov 2014
Tell me, is it like they say in stories?
Can they find true love, so young, so pure,
Does he take her  breath away with just a phrase, just a word,
Or ignite a passionate fire with just one touch?
Do they really kiss like the world's about to expire,
Or stare deep into each other's  eyes, feeling nothing but desire?
Do they appreciate their imperfections, believing they are perfect?
So tell me, is it like they stay in stories,
Or am I truly a hopeless romantic?

Hope
Similoluwa Oct 2014
To hope is to aspire
See the best of things, no matter how dire

Hope is to see is and be deceived
But dream and believe

Hope is to run towards the mountain
And believe that you can jump over it

To hope is to truly believe
That your dreams will become reality

To have hope is
To turn your can'ts into cans
And your dreams into plans

To hope is to
Believe

Words I Never Said
Similoluwa Oct 2014
They bounce around in the midst of my thoughts
Begging to be released out into the open
Where they can resuscitate the flat line
That are our hearts

I stare at him stare at me
Watching waiting, looking, lingering
For me to utter the phrases
That can mend us

My mouth dries up as I try to speak
And again, I say nothing

So as I watch his receding back
All I do is stare
Because of those resounding words inside my head
That are never
Said.
How I feel when I know I'm supposed to say something but don't
