If your kisses were music,

I’d forever be their harmony

She is a library,
I say this because it is hard
to compare her to anything else,
Inside her walls lies story after story,
Knowledge that is wise far beyond her years,
She is a beauty,
one that will belong to no one but her own,
Sometimes she will lend me parts of herself,
Books I will treat as such,
which if anything is not my own,
I will hold her spine dear,
Careful not to damage the pages
Drink her words, let them sit in the pit of stomach,
She will call back for the borrowed parts
These temporary treasures,
I will carry close to my chest
And cherish every word

We watched the NASA rocket launch
Two years ago in fall
Over the grass, under the sky
Behind the ball field's wall.

I raised my hand above us there
And traced a constellation
And while you laughed, corrected me
I scowled in consternation

Then there- above- a streak of orange
Ripping the dim horizon
A trail of light, a touch of fire
Grew brighter, higher, rising.

Your forest eyes, your white-teeth smile
Stretched wider, shown like mirrors
I saw the rocket's upward path
In eyes, so deep and clear.

I could have watched your face for days
Painted in the glow
The fascination burning there
I'd never come to know.

Institutional religion makes good people better
But rarely makes bad people good because
Their religious extremism makes the
Good and the bad, far worse due to
Their fanaticism for adhering to
Simple solutions in an
Increasingly
Complex
World.

When you go past the end
Of your comfort zone the
Experience will be electric
In a surreal world where all
Certainties vanish and the
Strangest things happen.

When fear is mixed with passion
Hope is combined with opportunity
Love becomes a bedfellow with hate
Complexity is a companion of challenge
On this light-speed rollercoaster where
Desire drives you over the edge
To where you start to live your
Monochrome life in Technicolor.

Balance in chaos
Calm in desire
Discourse in energy
Escape in freedom
Frailty in greatness
Grief in hell
Hope in isolation
Interest in justice
Joy in knowing
Killing in love
Living in melancholy
****** in nothing
Night in omens
Openness in pain
Pulse in quiet
Quest in running
Rapture in song
Sadness in time
Temptation in urges
Unction in vain
Victory in wishing.

Waves crash into our lives in an uncomfortable reminder
That living life is much closer to survival than we hope
We watch as floods wreak havoc with disconnected concern
Thankful that fate meant it was they not us this time.

Waves flood into our memory like a bad disaster movie
That losing life is much nearer to probability than we wish
We watch as winds break boundaries with a guilty glee that
Tempts fate will make certain that it will be us next time.
