Screens
dk Dec 2013
I can waste endless hours
staring into white screens
causing dystrophy
as sleep crosses my mind
I yearn to decide
not to entertain my eyes
but to entertain my soul
yet I find I keep filling
up with these same things until I'm full

reading complaints about the system
written by people staring into white screens
we all yearn to bring about change
without doing anything
all these screens we stare into
are staring into us
so we complain about this problem
and stare at screens while we discuss

I yearn to bring about change as I stare into a screen
I write a song, a complaint, hypocritically
after wasting endless hours
I can't take it anymore
I pray God help me
Pry away to fight this war

Eyes

Eyes glued to tiny screens,
the thought of eye contact is faint,
Words are limited.
Silence is all you hear along with the shocks of the buses' wheels
I look around,

Eyes glued to tiny screens,
plugged in,
cookie cake in hand.
What are they thinking?!
A smile wouldn't hurt!
What is beauty?
The train whistles.

Eyes glued to tiny screens,
doors are open,
people get on and off the bus.
What journey are they on?
What part of the day am I getting to share with them?
A smile wouldn't hurt.

It's funny how I teach my students that eye contact is very important.
Am I setting them up for failure?
I look around.
It's like I am invisible.

Eyes, glued, to tiny screens.
I could probably sit here naked and no one would notice me.
A smile wouldn't hurt.

The breeze feels grand,
but who am I to judge?
Eyes glued to the screen.
I am just as bad as one of them.
A day at the bus stop.
Our love was made for movie screens
Shining brightly on sunny days
Guided by starry nights
Over the coasts and horizons

Our love was made for movie screens
Awaiting the unknown
Never short of heartache
And yet so patient and kind

Our love was made for movie screens
Covered in kisses
Intense and wild
So deep and divine

Our love was made for movie screens
Lit up by fireworks in the sky
And butterflies within our beings
Our song on the radio, our hearts and bodies always entwined

Our love was made for movie screens
Nothing but a fantasy
Every moment so magical
Despite the distance, so unreal

Our love was made for movie screens
No matter the people
No matter the noise
You’re the firework, I’m the sky

Our love was made for movie screens
Filled with laughter and adventure
Made of you
Made for us
