the phone rang
middle of the night
it was god calling
but hung up got the answering machine
if only

but what could you say anyway
ask to do differently
unweave one strand of the worlds tapestry
undo one space and place in time
surrender the whole for one fragile moment
but you would say what beauty there was there
you would say how precious this thing i lost
in the ocean of the world
looking for that single drop of water you cling to
middle of the night

the phone rang for a brief moment
it was god calling
to say he is sorry but
sometimes just cant be
some people just catch all the wrong raindrops
some people see the rainbows but never get to see the smiles

so let me redefine this phrase
im sorry for all the calls you missed
nothing can prepare you for this journey
its only the warmth we find in others that make it bearable
and im so sorry you have had so much trouble finding them
the phone is ringing
its me, not god
hoping you were home
ill love you till you find the love you were meant to find
