From a ******* where the ocean splashes the land,
To the filth along train tracks,
Sealed in boxes until a different time,
Adorning the tender sternum or soft ears of a lover,
Even in the hands that look like mine.

Luster, depth, and complexity, draped in an iridescent rainbow.
Is it truly rare?

Aloof you pass by many,
Hopeful searches turn hopeless,
Until the one that finds you.
Will it break?
Will there be another?
Will you know its value and will it be true?

What is coveted will always be ravished.
What is ravished may be lost,
Too soon before you learn to live with what you have.
