There it is, can you feel it?
Again and again it beats,
Over and over,
It reminds you that you are alive.

It tells you that you should be burning.
The spark that lit the fire,
And set no less than the world ablaze.

Again it beats,
Over and over,
Only another reminder of how far we've gone.
It reminds you that you've gone nowhere.

It tells you that you should be burning,
But you were barely a flicker,
Put out by the rain.

What if the only burning you ever faced,
Was what brought you the most pain.
