Freedom
Black birds
sing until dawn,
smoke and cinder
raining down
on everyone,
darkness
shaking like bones,
carry your shame
bound tight inside
an angel's name,
black wings
carry me home,
take me back
where water meets
the winding roads,
red barns
burning to ash,
flames that flicker
far beyond the avenue,
nobody knows
what the new world holds,
but mama says,
love like water,
and wander back home.
