She was a north star that found my bearing
and got me going right ahead
she was strong wings that got me soaring
she was every praise I should have said

She was a tight door I had to open
she was strung up inside her head
she was light far up, kept me hoping
that there was some life inside my dead

Now she's a devil that haunts my nights
now she's the wind that blows out my lights
she's a demon I shouldn't have trusted
but it was worthwhile, while it lasted
Though we done, not dusted

she was the same road I had to follow
and the destiny that I led
she was the presence that filled my hollow
and her fragrance lingered in my bed

She was the stranger that turned friend
the only promise of love I had
a friendship too bitter to end
you should have seen the laughter shed

*Now she's a devil that haunts my nights
now she's the wind that blows out my lights
she's a demon I shouldn't have trusted
but it was worthwhile, while it lasted
Though we done, not dusted
