my love for him sometimes
was like a whispered secret

in the dead of the night:
quiet and careful.

other times it was a violent
thrash of the tongue,

hands clinging on to the highest
tree branch, afraid to fall.

(afraid to say goodbye.)

to save myself from getting hurt

by you.

in the process.

iii.
(goodbye, ghost, i'm sorry
that i loved you so.)

(goodbye ghost, i'm sorry
that i let you go.)
another one of those days when i don't know *** i'm doing.
