Within the mind there is a place where dwells the demon's brood.
As Halloween gets nearer yet, it's gates become unglued.

The seal begins to strain and squeal. The hinges start to swell
As creatures strive to come alive and leave my mental hell.

The moon is full and scudding clouds give credence to the tale
That at the time of Hallow's Eve our courage starts to fail.

I see the shadows of the trees, denuded of all their leaves
Imagining the snapping claws imagination weaves.

I peer in darkened places where the moonlight fails to reach
And think I see a movement and my mind begins to screech.

My heartbeats race with every step. Was that a howl I heard?
Or was it just a "Nevermore" from Edgar Allen's bird?

My nerves begin to fray and itch, my feet begin to dance.
My dreams awake me in a sweat at Frankenstein's romance.

How eerie is the human mind where fears and horrors lurk!
Sleep well tonight, just a few more days, til monsters go BERSERK!

The tavern roof was smokey
with a pall of blueish ash.
The juke box was a- booming
as it played "The Monster Mash".

A giant puffed a burning witch
whilst smoke rings he exhaled....
While victims of our neighbor,
Vlad...on stakes were all impaled.

The Faceless Man was grinning...
from ear to missing ear.
The hanged man turned his twisted neck
to sip a mug of beer.

The Headless Horseman shouted
for an aspirin or three.
He popped them down his gullet
where his head was meant to be.

The zombies waited tables
and the werewolf tended bar.
Mothra was the carhop
and took orders car to car.

Godzilla worked the griddle
and served burgers ala carte.
Dracula complained about the steak
caught in his heart.

Ghosts and ghouls were dancing
with abandon on the stage
While cyborgs did "the robot"
'cause they thought it was the rage.

The mummy came unraveled
as we took him for a "spin"
As Frankenstein played tuba
to contribute to the din.

Igor brought "the monster"
and then Freddie brought his claw.
Jason brought his butcher knife
and his buddy from "The Saw".

The guillotine was working
and the raven refereed
So nevermore would pardons
be
allowed to intercede.

The pendulum was swinging
to the beating of my heart.
I hoped that I would wake up soon...
then did so...with a START!

Halloween is coming.  So, I guess
I should prepare.
Watch out for bars with men from Mars...
'cause BEASTIES party there!

how the years go sailing past! they go by in a blink!
one day i pause and grasp the thought, t'is later than i think.

i bury friends and family and start to realize,
i’m mortal after all, my friend ... and everybody dies.

i take an inventory of life's sorrows and it's joys
rememb'ring most the happy times and all my little "toys"

i think of goals accomplished and my failures just as well.
i think of things i can't unsay and doubts i cannot quell.

mortality, that bane of man, seems but another's fate
and miss my own life's pageantry, with naught but empty plate.

how strange my life should end one day.  the final scene must play.
i take each breath for granted and don't cherish every day.

so... "happy birthday to myself!
i’m fifty-two anon !
what happened to my days of youth!?  i missed them.  now they're gone!

The surf provides lullabies
as ocean echoes roll.
Too soon, the sunlight glitters
as the dawn turns gray to gold.

I wake and I rub my eyes
beside the sandy beach
My love beside me, languid lips
within an easy reach.

I whisper, sweet good mornings
as your dreams I brush away.
You stretch and yawn, responding to
requests to "come and play".

Lingered memories caress,
of last night's rising moon
with silver waves and ripples,
beyond the dark lagoon.

In shades of colors that mix and smudge
you take your time, no rush
My ******* tingle, at the thought
upon my skin, spreads flush.

In reverie, flutters reminisce,
your wanton body on mine.
Whispered moans in my ear, you ******,
"I'm yours", I hear on rewind.
When last night's... turns into this morning's

In a castle, near a mountain
in his dark, dire paradigm
dwelled a Doctor, the concoctor
of the monster, Frankenstein.

In a house not of the living
where people used to dine
he found a head in a bed
for the monster, Frankenstein.

In a graveyard near his castle
where the sun refused to shine
he found some noses and some toeses
for his monster, Frankenstein.

And on this night there came a storm
where lightening struck a line
of his fusion with execution
there rose his Frankenstein.
