The First Fallen Leaf
Lily Shores Jul 2019
In a time before man
In a tranquil young land
Stood nature's towering fortress
Its base etched with wisdom
Of the whispering trees
And melodies sang deep in the forest

Solemn
Serene
But up where its green
Another sight was to be held
The bundles on branches
were bounded by string
But there was a spirit
that couldnt be quelled

And thats where they say
On that autumn day
The very first leaf
fell

On a gentle thin veil
And invisible sail
The little green kite
Took flight

The carefree cardinals
And the chittering chipmunks
Hadn't a clue in the slight
Of the expedition
Of the leaf that had risen
Happening in the calm daylight

Relishing in its dominion
It turned to bright crimson
Then it was buried in white

Now when autumn's flame has settled in
And frosty wind rolls past the skin
Sound the winter bell
For all the leaves have fell

My Friend
Lily Shores Jul 2019
I opened the door
Looked out to the shore
For my friend was on his way
Then I carefully wrote
A little note
For my friend arriving today

We had many a conversation
My dear friend and I
But I do not truly know
If the sorrows I beared
And secrets I shared
Were between me and the lonely sky

My friend's cold stare is empty
It can turn the tide to frost
Although feared and shunned by many
He is welcomed by the ill and lost

I prepared a final drink
For my friend was on his way
And as fog descended upon my eyes
I say him as I lay

Here I stay
Lily Shores Jul 2019
When the sun is low
And the tide is high
When the wind blows
And the bird cries
Its all rising up
Only to fall

Don't let me know what I could have done
Who I could have been, what I have become
There's no point in running when your legs are done
No point in dreaming when your mind is numb
If the storm comes my way
Let it take me away
I just might wake to see the day
But for now
Here I lay

When the stones are worn
And the light peeks out
When the branches are torn
And there's no life about
Its all falling down
Only to rise

I'll make a crown of fallen leaves
A golden castle from shattered dreams
I'll sing my prayers to the sky
Until the sunlight starts to die
If the storm comes my way
Let it be on its way
I might not wake to see the day
But for now
Here I stay
