Then on the turn,
When the the eleventh was born,
I picked up the horn,
And put the charm on;

Tense, anxious, unsure,
I listened, intently,
To what the airwaves bore,
Pleasantly surprised, heavenly;

This one, velvety
Most amazing tone,
Dripping from a creamy cone,
Bothering, subtly, on ****; grins

What to admire,
The complicated complexity,
Or the cheeky conviviality?
Hmm...cold fire.

When expenses throw huge surprises,
No need to wear elaborate disguises,
Call in those old favours,
Don't care about debt filled rumours.
Money is hard to come by; creativity even harder.
Dada Olowo Eyo Feb 2013
Like a pregnant woman,
I am expectant,
I am an unlabelled can,
Holding some magic instant.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jan 2015
No more wellingtons,
No more icy things,
No more muddy murk,
No more shivering in the lurk.
Dada Olowo Eyo Mar 2013
Baby screaming in the dead of night,
As fiery tongues lick at its feet,
Helpless, frozen by the blazing light,
We watch, distraught, gnashing our teeth.

Hellish, lapping tongues,
Locking up every in its path,
The instrument of devil's wrath,
And creator of things awesome.

A spontaneous internal combustion,
Causing immediate unexplained confusion,
In all this hazy commotion,
You'd think it wasn't a contraption.

After a cup of strong coffee and orijin,
My mind opened to everything,
I could feel love and brilliance,
All at the same instance.
'Orijin' is a Nigerian bitters with alcohol in it.

Nothing is more powerful,
The force of hope,
The needed push or pull,
Stronger than dope.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2013
Nobody smiles at failure,
It is loathed, despised and cursed,
Everybody longs for a future,
Celebrated, envied and embossed.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2019
Beloved, be ye not fooled,
By modern day niceties,
For all of Babylon's stupendous cities,
Were built on innocent blood and bones.
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
A man's deflated ego,
Is a punctured tyre,
That can't take him anywhere,
His confidence wouldn't go.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2019
The proliferation of idiocy,
Calculated time wasting,
Vast amounts of buffoonery,
And targeted efforts at nothing.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2013
Moments of hot air,
Oh, there I go again,
The same, old refrain,
Whoosh! Until...there's nothing there.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2023
everything becomes mercurial,
across the land tempers rage,
the king has made his declaration,
subject only to the gods of the land;

for when you fail to truly educate,
the mind absorbs whate'er it will,
discerning between intent and action,
is necessary for reaction or circumspection;

but here we are,
yet again, at the familiar crossroads,
to the right or to take a left about-face,
to kick evil in the rear or kiss the devil.
The new President of if Nigeria, on the day of his inauguration, pronounced that the lingering subsidy on *** (petrol) was gone and all hell has been let loose on the land.

The coming days will be very interesting.

Bread seeking stomachs,
Half conmen, half charlatans,
Gluttonous holes in round faces
They are the gods of men;

Monarchs in the temple of deception,
Riding on the backs of simpletons,
Rasing the dead from the living,
Tormenting treasuries out of empty purses;

Jerry curled hair and fancy suits,
Luxury boats and four wheeled drives,
Mansions in reserved areas,
Super jets customised for tireless pleasure;

They ***** false altars,
Imprison the weak,
And confound wisdom,
With diabolical manipulation;

Many generations fettered,
By spiritual delusions,
Will take many more,
To free the much incarcerated.
Many Nigerians worship men of god that coerce them into parting with meagre living. They have built empires on the backs of the hopeless many. When questions are raised, they shut it down by promising hell fire. But many thinkers are challenging these general overseers, 'daddies and mummies in the lord' that continue to pray on to the gullibility of people abandoned to their fate. SAD

The pain of a loss,
This life has but no gain,
So what's the fuss,
Over a useless refrain?
Dada Olowo Eyo Aug 2019
Whence dost thine love sweep me,
Truly, I cannot see,
You make me feel this way, today,
Thence toss me that way, another day.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2020
Immediately, gradually,
Quickly, slowly,
Temporarily, permanently,
Technically, simply.
Many businesses are forced to stay shut for fear of COVID-19 spread. For economies that rely on heavily on private sector enterprise, it's the worst period in history.

Out of a place,
Of scorn and embitterment,
An outpouring of scorching mentions,
From whence came so much adoration.
It is true that to cross a woman is to have a date with the gates of hell itself. FIRE!
Dada Olowo Eyo Jan 2019
Let's show some flesh,
Some treats here, no ******* please!
Cover that crotch, O.K!
A little buttcrack will be fine;

It's a crazier world,
To get attention, go all out,
To break the superhighway,
Bring on the whole nine!
Nothing g much to add here... whatever makes you less depressed. O.K!
Dada Olowo Eyo Mar 2021
In bed, darkness, no power,
Bingeing on Supernatural,
Terrible pain around the lower lumbar,
Broke, not a single dime in my PayPal;

As my daughter lay sleeping beside me,
My son in the other room with his mother,
I suddenly am aware of the things I fail to see,
That truly I am blessed beyond any mundane bother;

But then again the morning brings its own worries,
My ageing mother afflicted by pain of her sister's loss,
Barely enough to save up for vacation stories,
And a country that does not care about us.
I am forty-one today.
Dada Olowo Eyo Dec 2020
And as we leave behind,
The past year in memoriam,
Dearly beloved, keep in mind,
There is no reason for alarm;

The times shall be kinder to you and yours,
In the most unexpected of places,
Ye, none of your labours,
Shall turn to ashes;

The new decade shall count up,
Unto moments of joy and laughter,
Yahweh's mercies shall not stop,
And his protection shall burn brighter;

Welcome, stride into twenty-twenty-one,
Keep hope well alive and kicking,
Despair? No, entertain none,
The heavens have got you, and don't stop believing.
2020 has taken so much from us it's only fair that 2021 give back in kinder measures.

Happy Better Year, 2021 to you all.

If I didn't get it,
On a platter,
Then I would want it,
To last forever.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2020
Suddenly,
Unexpectedly,
Sadly,
Unbelievably.
COVID-19 has forced many employers out of business, employees out of work. In one of the most horrible times ever experienced by mankind, the world is groaning from the after effects of a global pandemic.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2019
To many, and a few,
This is not new,
Old as anyone can remember,
Cycling from January through December;

Obtaining by false pretence,
Others later coined a preference,
Yahoo! Yahoo!
Yahoo! Plus! with added voodoo;

And from Cairo to Capetown,
Or Freeport through Freetown,
Victims have been left devastated,
Even the smartest outwitted;

Advance fee fraud,
I've got gold in the cloud,
You should be investing?
So, where should I be paying?
Nigeria has gained notoriety for being the host of a number of online and offline scams. Locally referred to as 419 or Yahoo Yahoo, this sometimes elaborate schemes involve as huge as entire life savings to as ridiculous as stuffing blank paper in place of real items hawked around the streets. It has gained that country some infamy but also painted foreign victims as greedy people who'd fall prey to really stupid set ups. CRAZY.

In the pursuit of nothing lost,
What then can be found?
But what indeed comes around,
Is a love story painfully gone bust!

I feel good,  I have luck on my side,
A fresh kind of breeze ruffles the trees,
Outside, there are butterflies, hummingbirds and bees,
And inside, this clear feeling of warmth, borne on a pleasant tide.
I was very optimistic when Pres. Goodluck won the presidential elections in 2010 :(
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2018
Getting in trouble,
Taking stick,
Breaking back,
Always grounded;

When I was older,
Alone, I would ponder,
Each time I remember,
Playing the problem solver;

It never ended well,
I would come up short,
Beaten down, for standing up,
In detention, fantasising freedom;

They called themselves friends,
But wanted only benefits,
Like leaving all the ***** dishes,
After a sumptuous sunday dinner.
I have never bothered much about their current predicament, no, not until they began taking sides with the generation that has kept them impoverished. The same people that have only benefited from the benevolence of Nigeria but have poured copious amounts of malevolence upon later generations. Elections are few months away and they will again spill blood to give their oppressors free reign to flog more sufferings into their already bent, misshapen backs. SAD.

Run me hands across her cadaver,
Cold, undulating ridges,
No pleasures, none, whatsoever,
I pack up and head for the ****** bridges.

Over two hundred girls many moons ago,
Then over one hundred in the same vein,
While the politics of stupidity serenades their incompetence,
Beer parlour intellectualism fingers the minds of the many keyboard warriors.
After Chiboks girls were captured about fours years ago, Dapchi girls followed suit...and Nigerians are clearly, clearly non the wiser.

Over two hundred girls, taken, many moons ago,
Then more than one hundred, stolen,  in the same vein,
While the politics of stupidity serenades their incompetence,
Beer parlour intellectualism fingers the minds of many keyboard warriors.
Over five years after the Chibok girls were abducted by boko haram, the government of the day grapples with the rescue of hundreds of girls in captivity. Previous government bungled any chances of rescue by jumping on conspiracy bandwagon. SHAME.

Between fiery and fun,
Eyes that make heads turn,
She pretends she hates my guts,
Yet  I colour the shape of her thoughts.

In the crypts of Winterfel,
Lay the bones of men that fell,
A rich harvest for Whitewalkers,
Day of doom for living talkers.

You scream like a banshee,
Writhing like a salted earthworm,
You said I was lovely,
But told your friend I can't even make you warm.

A quick witted confrontation,
May present fast reactions,
But calculated, measured responses,
Far accomplish evident results the whole world sees.

They tell you to marry,

Then they leave you high,
Tattered pockets, indebted and dry.

You see the lies slide off his tongue,
Like that bald, bearded singer guy slid into her DM,
The bespectacled minister of mendacity,
And cyber media in a frenzy over their announced engagement;

We have been here before,
History making a case for repeating itself,
The curious darkness that enveloped the airport,
And the magic of that Dubai exchange of vows;

It is two years on this train,
The tracks heading off into the distance,
The origins of this journey we know,
But halfway there the engine sings a different tune;

After holding Nigeria spell bound by their chemistry,
On the sequel of the highest grossing movie in Africa,
We are called to witness the crystallisation of a well hidden romance,
It's always beautiful to behold, something magical;

So here we are on the eves of two great milestones,
A delayed love story playing out real time,
And a commanding life hanging in the balance,
Will the past be dragged into the future

Will we look back in sincere amazement,
Of how gullible we had been,
Or in sheer and unforgivable embarrassment,
That we did not truly, honestly, come out clean?

In a cloud of disbelief and great distrust,
Over three hundred were snatched in the dead of night,
Since, more speculations have characterised their plight,
And put this minority's government on a failed ******.

And with great outpouring of emotion,
And endless international propaganda,
We all wonder where the two hundred and nineteen are???

Will he, now,  be stronger,

They had riddled his master callously,

Why ask,
When offered,
Without coercion,
Or manipulation?

Benevolence without bitterness,
Philanthropy without prejudice,
Charity without complaints,
Mercy without malevolence.
Nigerians call for accountability over seventy million naira donation toward the treatment of a one year old baby with holes in his heart that, sadly, died before medical intervention could be reached abroad. SHAME.
