Dahlia Ravikovitch
1936 - 2005/Israeli Well-known poetess Dahlia Ravikovitch (1936-2005) was born in a suburb of Tel Aviv and, after her father`s death, was sent to live on a kibbutz. She studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and later worked as a journalist, high school teacher and translator of poetry as well as children`s books. / / She translated, among others, the work of W. B. Yeats and T. S. Eliot. Ravikovitch published 10 books of poetry, three collections of short stories and seven children`s books. / / She was awarded the Bialik Prize (1987), the Israel Prize (1998) and the Prime Minister`s Prize (2005). Her poetry has been published abroad in 23 languages.
