Uganik Bay
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2012
In Uganik Bay that year the sun never set
I walked the long greening path to the dock
fireweed taller than I shooting summer's sky
Warmth of sun bringing lazy lily's leaning
Little waves splashed breaking cerulean blue
I waited the mail plane, pontooned it flew
Lulling oceans smooth you landed
with eyes that sailed me far-off island stranded
next to you
Float plane to carry us edging mountains, snowy, jagged
Dall sheep, perched asleep precariously rocky hung
Kodiak bears forded rivers we circled streaming on
Deep black kettle ponds no man to touch
snowy patches amid viridian lush
frozen, not to melt
our treasured days of flying
We met again at Hatcher's pass
with hearts to break as fragile glass
a part of love undying

Sailing in dreams
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2013
Sailing on the star streams reaching past the trees
looking for reflection in moons of lily seas

Crossing wild oceans of tumbling rocky waves
that toss me in the air, with no direction leading, spinning me away

Til in a dream I find you, last night so calm the water, smoothed my fever
lovely kisses rang, fragrant music ever sweetly sang

Until I wake to find, morning brings a crashing wave
you've sailed, swiftly fading from a silken dream

Desert mountain
CA Guilfoyle Apr 2015
I think of mountains
the way they climb for the sky
losing their way through clouds.
Looking up I never know if they reach the top
or if they see me way down here?
Some kind of ant, I dig for rocks
a pocket full of turquoise blue
a miner for Apache jewels
exposed by red dust winds
as the day chips away
and carves a night
into black obsidian.

Til under other slumber I fell

White petaled boats, lotus watery bloomed
other worlds sailed my dreaming room
strange music froggy
deeply toned

How black water breathes
CA Guilfoyle Sep 2015
Nights, we take the boat out
paddle our way green through water
swum by inlet waves, full moon apace
shadowy, ancient tribal faced
lose all trace of the shore, black
but for phosphorescence
glowing, trailing from the oars
a haunting ghostly art
green and breathing, disappearing
back into darkness, swallowed
by black water, by night
strange this death,
this rebirth and breath
felt in each and every moment.

You came honey in hand
glint in your eye
sticky sweet summer pie

Honeycombed days, we sang
meadow-ed daisy laughter

Bees on blackberries, thorny fingered reaches
blowing sea grass, sandy toed beaches

You were intoxicating
in your honey house hive
piano keyed, golden heart sighs

Musical notes, deeply toned, hallowed we played
on softest wings we flew away.

Ghost
CA Guilfoyle May 2013
In your tiny room, of paper flowered blue
with stains - brown rains the wall
a picture of light shining, eyes golden through
watched over, long nights - of dreams and moon
a restless ghost will follow
leave you deeply hollow
in your home

Morning ferns, no words to speak aloud
no language, only fragrant mossy earth
Oxalis a blanket, the hour blooms white
with lilies of perfection
dreams linger real
and never forget

I could write messages to the sky
climbing to the top of this summer mountain
digitalis pink, swirling sweet with bees
this place, tangled all in green

At the overlook, I am with trees
windward hanging on, dream
to fly away, a seabird ocean soaring
my mind of paper kite, adrift
through clouds of sky

Smell of moss and cedar
release of incense
in the warming sun
footsteps, fragrance
soaking deep
within

This must be Eden's
color of azure water
glinting flecks of sun
transforming turquoise blue
that my reflections go
diving in

The moon has left the sky
no longer does it shine, nor stars glittering fall

I tried to quickly pass
in order to avoid the wreckage
You were shipwrecked outside a grocery store
washed up, delivered by a sudden squall
You sat atop a ***** crumpled duffle
I met your sullen, soulful eyes
they spoke harsh truths, not denied
I gave you groceries, you reached for my hand,
thinking me your mother, your sister, a friend
Leaving I turned to see your face
my heart dropped anchor,
sunk by such weight

sea of green viridian, washing storms of grey

how mad the ocean's raving tune

night shimmers its way
into red and blue
where fiery clouds ignite

You lingered far too long
with rain clouds, your morning fog
I waited in mists of rain, the days
for sun to warm, to wrap it's arms once more
to watch the steam of scented cedars
I sat silent under great trees
of a rhododendron forest
kept looking for buds
a hint of flowers
to come
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2013
When after stars burn out, with glowing dust falling far to earth
colored sparks and charges mingle in the trees
forest faeries come to gather tiny stars
from green summer leaves

With jars of light, they taking flight
little lanterns flitting through the woods
sprinkling starry heavens

Before the dawn they've
traveled long, blanketing the forest
now hide from sight they must
their wooded world born anew
sparkling with stardust

clouds of gypsophila bloom

we are drunk from dulcet wine
sung from the moon that dips
caress of your reddened lips
as we travel this world

In this city house amid the screaming sirens,
here in the whirling of paper and garbage
I hear the banging of trucks over broken roads,
low rider stereos, their deep boomed, throaty moans.
Here in this strange forest that flies with cactus birds
alluringly they sing in secret symphonies,
before the howling chorus of coyote calls,
the rising magnetic moon, a mountain flower
pink blushed that fully blooms.

Through wooded fog
fades the day, abandoned to the grey,
lost road, lost home - belonging to no one

Pictures found upon a mantle, dust and charcoal,
photos framed in rusty metal,
sepia shadows, a broken mirror

Collections of rocks and bones,
letters and sealing wax,
china cups, stained and cracked

Musty pages of paperbacks,
remnants of a life long ago.
Memories, pressed flowers of fading bells,
little relics, loved
so well
this is commentary on a house I came upon one time while on Unga island in Alaska. Unga was once a thriving village, with a fish cannery. It is now abandoned, with quite a few houses still remaining.

CA Guilfoyle Apr 2016
When I can no longer discern the path
when I am seeking a seer's looking glass
I walk miles of desert alone, travel years from home
to stand hot or cold, in a wilderness, fragile or strong
in storms, sun sweltered and windblown.
I believe in fire, the burning into ashes reborn
look for defining lines, watch for the telling signs
I listen for the music of words, spoken softly sweet
for love notes, tucked in heart, to keep.

spinning round my head, I play records on repeat

CA Guilfoyle Jun 2014
Some say
she is lost to writing poems
snippets, little vignettes of beauty
so much nature inspired, obsessed
with green, botany driven desires
forever in skies, blue, or black with stars
meteor showers, falling, melting
like the liquid silver, red sea of mars
crashing waves, her days
tossed, tumbled, stumbling onto poetry
there is no fault, in words
no shame to be made
would be a sorrowful price to pay
she is writing to find
some truths, a sleuth, a seeker
of going within, without doubt
writing to find herself
most days searching out signs of life
to feel what it would be like, to be
in trees, in leaves, to sleep in green towers
of garden lily bowers
to finally dream in lucid colors, surreal
climbing invisible ladders
in orchards of apple blossom Springs
to sing, sing, sing
