93 million miles Ra’s rays travel
and light your cratered face

as you rise between monoliths
where janitors man buffers

and ambitious white collars sit by crumpled fast food wrappers
devouring data, dreaming of their own ascension

while you climb ten floors a minute

tomorrow, our wide world will shave a corner from you
in a fortnight, you will be a white whisper

though surely as our stone spins, you will again
become gibbous--then regally full

inside the scrapers, the buffers yet buzz,
the aspiring giants yet yearn for more

while you remain, silent light in the night,
unperturbed by their folly

Lying here, my back pressing
On your back while sleeping
And breathing. When we sleep
We lose control of the rules.
The body drives itself: submit,
It says. But are you there? Maybe.
And where is that exactly?
I am no expert on place.
Though I know I feel
less of me when you are there but
Not there. That's okay. Here but not
Here, that's where I am, too.
More often than you.
And more like this,
Me waking before you, will come.
All that needs to be done is wait.
And wait is the only unbreakable promise.
To you, I promise to be whole even when
I'm living in the interim between here and unhere.
Even if I'm a resting carcass penduluming
From one end to the other. This is why
I go away, you see. I wish the answer was simpler.
I want it to be simpler because I can't
Lose you again.
Nothing compares to the percussive
heart assault of descending into
your mind. Or falling into you.
Your chest
Rising then falling,
the print of ribs underneath like gift-wrapped cages.
That's really what falling is.
Together
even in the lapse of alive.
In this Vulcan moonshade, all I can do is
adore you while I wait for sleep to come.

I wear the face of a gay
man living in society
amongst fast-changing
creations, surrounded
by beating drums
and rumbling rhythms
suspended in space.
To live as a homosexual
brings forth many obstacles,
to be around the crowd
and listen to the slashed
sounds of damaged nouns
and pronouns swirling
in the air, run-off sentences
smashed and slammed,
rammed and jammed,
crashing off course
into smoky dungeons.
The gay man faces many
challenges in life and
some that ultimately
creates confusion
and chaos within
converging worlds.
The late-night walks
that leads to fist fights,
stereotypes, gun violence,
a fear that most homosexuals
live with every day.  To walk
in a world diverging from the
norm, to feel insecure
and unworthy among the
universe, to breathe in the
language of hatred circling
the landscape, wondering
if the world will ever understand
what it means to be gay.

Tangent, like so
Back side, torso
Two systems touching
Move ever so slow
Breathe in the body heat
Top off both of the lungs
Feel those expand the diaphragm
Stretching body to its limit
Then halt
Then hold
Let the ribcage further swell
To the point of nearly bursting
First stroke
Feel cold air tingling the nose
Make contact
Release the diaphragm
Slowly, almost without motion
Pour heat outside into the chill
Until the airways close down shut
Press on, then press some more
And take your breath away
Second stroke
The cycle starting over
Rhythmic, measured, patient
With maximal efficiency
Each night,
You prove through me the limit
of possibility

You are
What you are

Even while carried
To the left, or to the right
Up and down
Even if pivoted
Through each and every angle
Even when you were
And when you will
Forever still

Except

When you reflect
Through right to left
In your perception of the self
You are

Mistaken

So why rely on chiral lie
Deny your mirror form
And celebrate you
That is true
Through other eyes

You are reborn
