Being alone doesn't make you any less valuable.

Leigh Herondale  *August 2015
Lesson I learned today. I love solitude!
Love should not be possessive. Love like you would a flower, growing in a field.
If you were to pluck that flower, take it inside, to place in a vase or between the pages of a book, it will wither and it will die. Suffocated, cut off from that place which it is meant to be.

Instead, lay next to your love. Let your breath be the wind that brushes against its petals. In a storm, build a fortress to protect it, to shade it from the sun. Sing songs to it until you fall asleep, where you dream beside it.

If you part, have no fear. Relish the moments in which that Love is beside you. Do not entertain thoughts of another coming and plucking that flower, you have no control over such things. Live beside that which you Love, possession will only bring death. No one can take your love. If in the morning that flower is no longer there, fear nothing, as you too will one day be gone.

The more we love, the more we want to hold on. Let go of the idea of permanence. Everything is ever changing. The seasons, the tides, they come and they go. Move within them. Hold that Love deep inside, like a heartbeat.

Fear of loss is ever gnawing. Let go of fear by letting go of the idea of possession. All that you own is that which beats within you, silent and voluminous. All else is an illusion.

When you look across the room at her, do so as you would a flower. Appreciate and enjoy, do not let the tendrils of fear wrap themselves around you. Do not reach out and take what is not yours, do not ask for anything in return. Open up your heart, let the sunshine pour from your eyes. Before you know it, these moments will be memories. This life will be another grain of sand on an endless beach. your story will be lost on the winds of spring.
I tell you this
in the midnight mourning
that everything I have thats beating
beats inside for you
you tell me you need to go
that this isn’t working
and I say please
do what you need to do
to find that sunshine thats buried within
I too have a fire burning throughout my ribs
and it burns for you
I just need a minute, to gather the moment
and hold it
We were seventeen or eighteen in Nam
we became friends forever.
No more than friends.
Soldiers get closer than wives.
We went to sleep saying
I love you man.
We switched letters
For our girlfriends.
In case… well just in case.

The bullets rained
in the clearing that night.
I can still see the tracer lights.
Guys fell down all around me.
Crying everywhere.
Airpower cleared them away.

I looked for Joe he was lay there.
I held him close
like a baby as he left us.
His last words
I love you man.
I whispered to him
Not as much
as I love you Man
.
I did not notice I had been hit.
After six months I returned home.
In West Virginia his beautiful girl
Opened the door of a small trailer.
She had a baby in her arms.
Her blue eyes welled with tears.
I passed the unopened letter to her.
I lied and said the blood
on it was mine.

She passed the baby
to me to hold
As she read the letter.
I kissed his tiny forehead.
And said see buddy
You’re not dead at all
I love you Man.
maybe I don't understand
the things that are at hand
but what is your goal?
your personality's as black as coal

I felt it in my gut
that this whole thing was going to rot
you left me standing there
in a place I couldn't bear

but who am I to judge
we're not in a court of justice
I don't have a gavel to declare you guilty
to prove to others such false humility

maybe God is just testing my patience
making me remember all of His faithfulness
my sufferings are yet to end
but my scars remained for God to mend
Another poem, another feeling. Oh how I love letting these things out.
I usually do not wear pearls.
But today is my birthday
they will stay around my neck
all through the night.
He was hopeless at presents.
He always brought
me one of course.
For birthdays,
anniversary and Christmas.
For some reason
he never got what I wanted.

It did not matter, I do not care.
He was the only gift I ever needed.
He always made me laugh
when my dark moods came.
How did he always
make me feel so beautiful?

When the illness came
he tried to hide it from me.
But I knew ...I knew

Even now after all this time
I have danced
the practiced movements of love
with other impostors.

But when the dark of night
fills my bedroom
Its you honey
only you.
Only you knew how fix me.

Tonight I will sleep quietly
dreaming of you.
As I am wearing
your birthday pearls once more.
I know we are different
you and I.
you chasing everywhere
me standing perfectly still.
you move about your world
so different from mine.
your dreams are tainted
blue from the sky.
you are so close to the sun.
Yet I know how grounded I am
perhaps too close
to the roots of green earth.
I know you scare me.
but I will swallow my fears
like a pill.
and climb onto your flight.
we will soar upon
thermals from heaven.
Gliding like gracefull swallows.
And if ever I should fall
I will look into the
vastness of space.
And know that
I have been there
and it was you
who took me.
