Stylistically I'm jaded.

Minimalism has me trading:
My loud for my quiet.
My big for my small.
My tall for my short.
My yellow for my blue.

My lie for my true.

At 6 she wanted to be a ballerina
At 8 she wanted to be a veterinarian
At 10 she wanted to be a teacher
At 13 she wanted to be pretty
At 16 she wanted to be dead

But..

At 18 she graduates high school
At 20 she studies for her final
At 22 she gets her diploma
At 24 she finds her career
At 26 she whispers "I do"
At 28 she holds her new born child
At 30 she wipes her tears and says

"I made it"

We are not the same,
Always playing different games,
Thought I had it right the first time you ever said my name,
But you were impatient and unkind,
The surface hiding what's inside,
And baby, I don't want that.

I missed you last night when I walked down the streets,
Past the local bar we used to always meet,
Where you looked at me like art and lust radiated heat,
Now someone else has got me beat
And baby, I don't want that.

Laying in bed,
Thoughts littered my head,
While I was under someone else
And you were drunk alone again.
Wish we were a old film where you'd come running back,
But I've done all the running,
And baby, I don't want that.

Pray the gray away he said fur coats and bronze feathered head bands long ciggerates and bed pans maids glamorous, you'd be perfect there, a princess of the 20's. Velvet sheets, hands on your knees, arched back off the bed, different positions, I'll live to please, I'll kiss you from the tip top all the way down to your feet, you're beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

How easy would it be
To hide from the things
That we did not see

To warn ourselves
Of the living thieves
Stealing our hearts, leaving us empty

But do we learn
From those mistakes
Even when we feel so much hate

It's those things that teach us to grow
From crying all night
To feeling overjoyed

Take those days and teach yourself
Because there's no such thing
As life without pain
