Beautiful Evergreen
Sanaa Dec 2019
Dear beautiful evergreen
rooted down in the field
strongly upholding itself
like it has an impenetrable shield

The one that has experienced blazing summers
and freezing winters
not only seen warfare
but watched it from the center
winds blew it west and east
but it never went left or right
had blood on its leaves
but never got into a fight

Dear beautiful evergreen
That stands there all yearlong
keep your roots rooted
and continue to be strong

A Letter To My Nation
Sanaa Jan 2021
Dear Police,
My skin color isn’t a weapon
Although it seems like blackness
Is a gun in a white man’s perception
We are amazing
But don’t get enough time to show it
My brain functions as good as yours
Until you use your gun to blow it
How one black person acts
Shouldn’t ruin my reputation
You purposely attack my kind
And that’s the definition of discrimination
If you just let us live
You’d learn we are plentiful
But what you really don’t understand is
My black is beautiful.

Sanaa Jul 2019
Life is a race
And i know I’m not winning
Nowhere near the end
But too far from the beginning
But I continue
Because the tortoise always win
So brag all you want
I’ll see you at the end

Drinking
Sanaa Sep 2019
Just put the bottle down
Before your liver turns black
Stop drowning in your sorrows.
Face them instead

Staying sober won’t **** you
It’ll do the opposite
Cause your drinking
It’s not just hurting your insides

It’s also hurting mine

Calm down babygirl
I’ll be fine
Don’t worry your beautiful curls
Just let your smile shine
I’ll be home soon
Sorry I always work late
Just go to sleep watching cartoons
And try not to be Freddy Krueger’s bait
You may not have winter gloves
Or the freshest j’s
But you’ll always have my love
And it grows more everyday
Just remember it’s not your fault
Some people change
Even sugar looks like salt
So
Calm down baby girl
I’ll be fine
Don’t worry your beautiful curls
Just let your smile shine

colorblind
Sanaa Feb 2022
They say love is blind
but my melanin is not
because black skin was all that was present
when george lost his life to a cop
black stood out
when we said our lives matter
black is all they see
when injustice leaves our brains splattered
you can’t justify racism
with “i don’t see color”
because this isn’t just my skin
it’s my culture
it’s all i have left
my only sort of identity
if you don’t see my blackness
you don’t see me

Getaway Cruise
Sanaa Dec 2019
Lift the sail
And go
Never come back
Never look back

Take the River of Freedom
Into the Sea of Dreams
Where sky's the limit
With no memories
Of the Past
No set destination
but a planned out journey
Where
The only love
Is between
The sea and I
With it's majestic water
filling the blood in my veins
Filling the missing pieces in my heart.

Lift the sail
And go
Never come back
Never look back

Never bringing the broken me back.

I want you here
But get away
I like you
But hate your guts
You’re my light
But also bring the darkness

Breathless
Sanaa Oct 2019
I’m gasping for air
But there is no air to grasp onto
Begging for someone to care
But that’s something they won’t do

They watch as life pours out
And as my blood drains
Making it’s way about
Surrounding me like water in hurricanes

I continue to drown
In this pool of hate
While everybody around
Let it happen without debate

I just want to be loved
I just want to matter
Not to get pushed and shoved
And get thrown away deep without ladders

I’m gasping for air
But there is no air to grasp onto
Begging for someone to care
But that’s something they won’t do

Understood your words.

A tree
Sanaa Apr 2020
A tree deep into the forest
alone in the woods
Roots deeply rooted
Keeping it in place
It wants to flow with the leaves
To a populated place
With beautiful greenery
And more branches than it’s own
A place that smells like timber
With thousands of saplings
for company .

You stole my heart
But didn’t even know
Don’t want to get broken anymore
So I pretend to be cold as snow
But my heart can’t help but flutter
Every time I hear your voice
Even at the slightest mutter
Makes my heart do a loud beeping noise

Yeah... Whatever
Sanaa Sep 2019
It’s whatever
It’s not like your not always in my mind
Like I can’t listen to a song
Without it somehow connecting to you
Like my heart don’t skip beats
When all you said was hi

It’s whatever
It’s not like you’ll ever know
Like you’ll ever know what I feel for you
That I’ll ship you with other people
Before I ship you with me
Like you’ll ever see me
As more
Than the girl you are friends with

It’s whatever
I don’t care about you loving everyone
But me
Like I don’t care about not being the one
Holding your hand

But hey
It’s whatever

They tell me to shoot my shot
But it’s obvious I’ll miss
Why should I give it all I got
Who would like someone like this
Yes I want him
But nobody wants me
Wish I looked like them
But I don’t
So I’ll be forever lonely

That one star
Shining at night
Gives me hope
Hope that all the ones I “lost”
Didn’t lose me
That all the ones that “died”
Reincarnated into that star
To be my guardian angel

I just need.... time?
Sanaa Sep 2019
Time doesn’t heal
It just helps you get used to living with pain
It won’t change the way you feel
Or all the heat break you’ve gained
It won’t stop you from crying
At the mention of their name
It won’t stop you from dying
You’ll never be the same
Time doesn’t heal
You’ll never be the same person in a way
It won’t change the way you feel
But who said I wanted to be that same person anyway
