You Are
Jen Feb 2019
In another
World
What you
Dream is
Only that,
A dream
What is it
You see
Going
Into the deep?
When you
Are taken
Away,
When you
Have left
The day
Left the
Night
Left your
Body
Alone
As you
Drift
Away
You're
Shooting
Down
To new
Heights
Like the
Stars
You are
One
You are

It's the time of year
That tears can
Make a stream
Under your left eye,
Counting the minutes,
haunting memories
Visit like drafts
Coming from the edges
Of a window when
October smiles its
Wide grin of
Oranges and lemons
And laughs while
You shiver
And now I sit and wonder
Solemnly to myself
What it would be like
In (your) arms one day...
Would long-past memories
Be erased?
To greet us with a warm embrace?
I sit here and wonder
About you

Sinking,
Under recesses,
To discover
The crevices,
Of Time-
Seen
In rusted "pieces"
Of Tattered Playgrounds,
From long ago.

The Merry-Go-Round
Turned Round',
Again-
And again...

We can never
Rewind the tape,
Just remember it.

Tire Graveyards,
And Landfills
Of broken-down
By-products,
Of our Being.

You shouldn’t have to change
Who you are

Stay true to you
No matter how hard

Someone's always
Gonna want to
Change you
Don't

Close the gap,
Own yourself
No one else
Vice versa

If it’s meant to
It will find you
In between
The pages of
Your masterpiece
Words should lift
You up
Not break
You down
Make you smile
Not the other way
Around

Accept you
All of you
Ups & downs

If it’s broken
Let it be
If it’s tattered
Set it free
We all
Only get
One story
Inspired by a dear friend who always tells me to never change who I am.

Reach
Jen Jul 2018
Don't worry,
Anything
That you want,
Or "think"
You need,
Is all within
"A mind's reach."

A coal drenched
Back splash,
Represents
A Backdrop
In the night.

The hands of
A clock can stop,
But time
Continues on,
So close your eyes.

What is it that you're reaching for?

Transparent, Turquoise
Lines the air-
A contrast
Against
Something
Not there...

The rest is
Up to you.

Hidden Sacrifice
Jen May 2019
It’s easy for us to get “caught up” on our lives
When in the darkness others have no choice
But to sacrifice

Don’t idealize, it’s all compromise, what if we
All stood up together to shut it down, what if
What if those of us, the millions of us that
Stay silent shut it down, is there a way?

How could it happen, it could in time, it could
It’s the underworld where children are treated
Like animals, we live our lives, we do, we don’t
Think about them, but what if there was a way

What evil lives in the hearts of men, what evil
Corruption and greed run rampant in this life
They will find their fate one day in the end

Some are just small children, sold like animals
Treated worse, groomed, trained, and used
Until they die, misery turned to tears,
Their innocence taken, objectified
And here we are worrying about trivial things
In our lives while they are helpless and alone
The hidden sacrifice
Came across some reading material on human trafficking and then this poem emerged. I wanted to cry after reading about it...especially the parts of how children as young as toddlers are being treated, ugh.

The spot that we met,
On a beautiful morning,

It seems like only yesterday,
How the time did fly by.

Crossed my face not

Secrets buried deep,

Threw away the key
Floor against my knees
Long ago, didn’t look
Back, I don’t know why
Everything makes me
Tear, with all the reason
To be happy, only sinking
In my own regrets, but

Connecting past the universe’s face.

Difficult to hide,
To break down a wall or two
Like memories that were
Created, detoxified
Built on shaky ground
All falls
All falls
Down.
Does anyone else find music very inspiring? Sometimes, I am shocked at some of the songs that I find moving.  I listen to a lot of Spotify, and I heard the first few seconds of a song called "Deserve" by Christina Aguilera...all of a sudden I was in another world and had to start writing. It is funny how certain songs can just draw you in...with no explanation.

If it did,
Please forgive me

In the air
To discover

Only meant
To remain

You keep building,
While I break down
To enter
A new
Phase,
The best one,

Feet enter
A new door,
Revolving
And uplifting-
It’s like
A
New Dimension,
To see.
As if it’s
All
Falling
Into

Like
It’s meant to
Be.

Looking
Out
And

To discover,
A New

Easy,
Never will
Be,
But the past,

A suggestion,
Awakened

It sinks
Into

A beautiful song,
Lamenting
Something
Never lost.

Heat
Pouring
Into seams
And soil,
Going
Far
Beneath
The ground,
Continuously
Until
Losing steam.

Quickly recovering.

Your hands
Tracing
Mountains,
A curved
River invades
In an
Overture,
Overtly
Aware,
Wanting
More
And more.

No cure.

Drink
From

Until full.

And this

Lives inside,
Awakened,
Fully alive.

With a soul

Life,
Don’t lay down yet
Save your breath,
Stay up a little longer,
Another hour and find
Your way back up,
Drown the Specter
There inside, down
Below the
Surface, so you can
Learn to breathe
Learn to love
Learn to see,
A better tomorrow

Until it is taken

Day is breaking,
Twinkles off
In the distance
Await dark bliss
When they can
Shine through
All of this.

Time traveling,
We do it every day.
Take a step,
Dance and traipse,
It's survival
You know,
It's all time
and space.

Some days you come
To find you're in
A new life,
The old no

To hold.

Why don't we
Live again,

Don't think twice,
Just this once.

Before our eyes.

Before our eyes,
Blesses us.

Yourself from the feed.

They can no longer reach you
In a place you feel safe.

That's when you are freed,
That's when you finally see,
What you are meant to be.

Maybe just a whisper
Compared to vast mountains
They climb oh so high.

Maybe just a speck
Of glimmering light
Next to their spotlights.

It doesn't matter
How big or small

Just remember
Your heart.

Never give in
To the fall

Let go, and release
Yourself from
The feed

No longer haunted,
Let your spirit
Be freed

Just listen for a whisper,
A speck of glimmering light.

All connected in the dusty wind.

All fades with fall to bring new life
In warmer weather.

Forever Love
Jen Nov 2021
He wondered what it would be like
To be water,
Flowing through the rocks and reefs,
Nothing could bind him,
Nothing to harm him underneath, within,
the soul weeps.

There was once a civil war,
And he was a soldier
Barely hanging on to life,
Kept going through the smoke-fire-pain
Love lost, lost his love in the rain.

Dropped to his knees and asked God why,
He would take away the one thing he was living for.

His dear love was the only reason he'd
Awaken each day and dream each night-
Picturing how happy they would be
Kept him moving still.

God looked down on the man and said,
"None of us get to choose when or how,
or what we lose."

The soldier placed one foot in front of the other
On solid ground
And found the strength to stand,
Until one day he'd rest his head
In a place where angels sing
And see his true love's face
And feel her in his embrace.

Now all that's left on this earth
Tells just a piece of their story,
Found one day buried deep
In the ground,
A wedding ring engraved with the words,
"Forever Love..."
