I laugh at the things that aren’t funny
To hide the heavy burden inside
What can’t be bought with money
Replaced by a hole both deep and wide

It’s a feeling that suffocates one’s soul
Weighing down her shoulders
Tugging on her lips
And tearing apart her thoughts

Always conscious of what’s seen
And never showing what hurts
Because the truth is mean
And the lies are worse

First it’s a possibility
Next it’s insufferable loneliness
Then it’s a destructive personality
And finally it’s numbness

Those are the stages
of this endless game
Those are the wonderful wages
Paid to those who it names

You can try to avoid it
But it only grows stronger
You can try to ignore it
But it only holds on tighter

This is the crushing
And the choking
This is the greedy
And the needy

This is depression.

There are always two side of a story,
two sides of a coin,
and two sides of a person.

So I ask you,
How can you expect your love to last
if it is only one-sided?

Fire can only spark.
Tongues are only held.
Fences are built high,
and secrets kept shelled.

Nothing ignites.
Words left unsaid.
Unbroken walls.
This love is dead.

So I ask you again,
How can you expect your love to last
if it is only one-sided?
