When I was lying in that hospital bed,
but you were busy with her.

but I don't think I need you anymore.

my girl told me i love my dog more then her
so i put them both in the trunk of my car
drove around for a short bit to think
i popped the trunk to talk
she hauled off and slapped me
and my dog jumped in my arms
showing me nothing but love
i guess she was right

Even though you left me when things got hard.

As I fixed your collar,
my fingertips barely
grazed your pulse
but it was just enough
to feel the blood rushing
underneath your skin.
Pulse quickened: check.
I only had to make
brief eye contact,
look up
and down again,
to see the expansion
of your pupils.
Eye dilation: check.
Don't think that
I didn't
hear or feel
the breath you didn't
realize you
were holding in.
Shortness of breath: check.
Hmm.
