When the bakery was bought,
For the sake of novelty, uniqueness, etc,
Called it ‘bitter’

Laddu was bitter
Jalebi ws bitter
Cherry was bitter
Bitter, bitter

What bitterness, said people

The servant got bitter
Sir,
There are no bill collectors to turn away
Flies mock
She at home
Serves bitterness

While sharing the alienation
Which novelty and uniqueness supplied,
With eatables,
Biscuit said

Let’s add the salt of tears,
Eatables will not sell
If bitter

‘Please give me something old”
When the sound of a beggar
Intervened

Myself, who stood for novelty and uniqueness
Told him ‘ you can have this bakery’

Ever thought how these four years would turn out for you??

Classes, proxies and birthday surprises,

Or ‘Junior– senior’ interaction which was a ragging in disguise!

The unlimited Gangtok trips-

Which was a first step towards your relationships!

Momos, Thukpas, Jalebi and Falay,

Which you would have it without any delay!

Kaalrav or departmental fest,

Which you would attend with utter zest!

The 6.9 turbulence-

Causing a whole lot of turbulence!

People seeming like refugees-

With no phone networks to contact friends, relatives and families!

Those 14 tiring sessionals in total

Which you crossed, thinking it to be a hurdle!

The placement tension-

And getting a job was the ultimate question!

Aahhh! These four years of igniting memories are just too wonderful,

Which  are definitely unforgetful!!!
(Meanings : Kaalrav- College fest
Momos, Thukpa, Jalebi and Falay- local cuisines in the state of Sikkim, India
Sessional- mid-sems)

It’s beautiful, Beta
Such beautiful flowers there
Excellent place, five star hotel-kind of
You don’t want to know how high it was
Such a kind man helped me come down
My legs were hurting too much Bita
That gadi no good what did I tell you

Ha Mummy
(lips spin into jalebi smile)

Whole new world open up,
Baaji so tired
You would not believe me, he did it didn’t he
Yes, took Baaji a lovely cuppa tea
Just the way I like it
You know I didn’t have no cake because of my medications

Ha Mummy
(cheeks go RAC orange)

I must go there again Beta
Go on
Book it for Baaji
Go on

Ok Mummy
(cheeks go coconut burfi pink)
Written on our summer trip to the Cotswolds only to break down and be taken by RAC breakdown lorry to the hotel
Hasti hai aankhein meri
Daaru ke sath jalebi
Chilling forest me ...
Dooba ek safar me...
Safar e sagar me jaata mein
Manzil e ruksat e dimaag khalipan...
Jhoomta mein jhoom barabar jhoom

When I was very little,
I landed on an orange rose's outer petal.
Then, ran and ran, round and round,
on and into the jalebi-like path, and stopped
just before the innermost chamber,
just above the heart of the orange rose.
Then, calling all my strength, I took a dive into its heart,
Then, what I did find inside, is indescribable,
So, I won't describe. If you want to know,
be a little orange freak and dive into the orange paradise...

I'm standing in the balcony,
watching a girl,
She's dragging the piece of cucumber
on the railing of her garden,
Licking the dust
and eating the rest
delightfully,
As jalebi is dipped in the syrup,
And here I am drenched in nostalgia.

The harrowing obligation is done.
Everyone has left him to his fate.
But for those sunk in grim gloom,
Some chew paan, some smoke,
While other keep their tongues
Rotating on fun and laghuter.
On the way they halt for cuppa,
Or jalebi or to shave their stubble.
What about his interview? Nobody
Knows and no one will know, never.
