my senses were drenched in you
       in your flavor and scent
           but i'm still seeking
          a deeper taste of you

The first time I ever kissed a boy
I remember the sinking feeling
No rainbows or joy
There was no romance
No sparks or magic
Or fireflies that danced

The first time I kissed a girl?
Now that's a different story entirely
I felt a sudden explosion
Take place inside of me
I tasted happiness, serenity
I savoured passion and certainty.

I swear I felt the stars fizzle on my tongue
For the first time in my life
My heart understood
Where it should
Belong.

i am the colored leaves cascading from autumn trees onto concrete
where you don't know below greens used to grow.

i am the pupil of your eye standing before a judges' sentence
without knowing the consensus missed evidence.

i am the rain drop that falls on your forehead
forgetting umbrellas don't matter
until they do.

of all the days
and timing too
you're no longer
the man i knew
it takes a while
they it's true
to process life
to pass it through
the brain is such
a funny thing
forgotten song
but tries to sing
you do not cease
to inspire me
your needs will
never tire me
although different
and sad to see
you'll always be
Dad to me
My father just recently had a stroke. I wrote this for him.

Don't approach a dog unknown to you
Holding out your hand, making eye contact
You may frighten him
Let him come to you

Don't write a poem uninspired
It won't work out
In good time
Let it come to you

Don't go out there seeking love
Like a child with a butterfly net
Live your life
Let it come to you
