howard brace Apr 2011
Borne on waves of solar wind
the void of space he navigates
ostracised, sails the sky
searching the night with polarised eyes.

With beckoning gaze, his look forlorn
watching the world float in space
off-ground-tigs plays he alone
for has no friends to call his own.

Muddy puddles and oceans reflect
mellow cheese, veined with blue
marred complexion, acne faced
through scudding clouds, plays peek-a-boo.

As old as time, a crescent smile
grinning the grin of a Cheshire cat
a melon slice, a boomarang
thrown into orbit, returns again.

Without our friend where would we be
the darkest nights through eternity
no tide to pull the ocean blue
no romance, for me or you.

...   ...   ...
We got back together on election day
As they say
When one door opens
Another one is threatened with missiles by China

We did not have the popular vote
Our electoral college hearts didn't care.
We knew our love deserved another term

I stole my girlfriends car to pick you up
Drive us to the voting booth in my old elementary school
It felt like by you entering that building we invented a tine machine

If we actually built a time machine
Do you think we would change the world somehow?
Step on one of our stomach butterflies or **** ******.

when I hear butterfly effect I think of election day
I think of the butterflies in my stomach
Learning how to start the first fire with sticks
How we rub them together
Until the sparks catch
Watch each other become warm
For the first time
All over again

Your legs slide up behind the tiny curtain of the voting booth
They say not to let others know who you vote for
But you were very clear
I've never heard a louder pledge of allegiance from behind such a tiny curtain

We stole the tiny pencil
In exchange for your *******
I think it was a fair trade
I want to see the face of who found those in the ballet box

I wonder if the vote counted.

I feel like firing missiles into the ocean to showcase our willingness to destroy everything for *******

We still don't have the popular vote in our next term

Even after all this legislature
They only remember our campaign slogans
And sound bytes
No one reads bills we pass
Laws we right

We have so much love
It must be run like a country
Our Senate is skeptical of the leadership

Our people are butterflies
Always jumping
Flying
Giddily bumping into walls
And getting back up

If we are so bad at running this country why are the people so healthy?
What makes them sing so loud?

It's the letters we write.
I took our time machine forward

They keep our letters in a muesem
Glass boxes
Display our hearts played out with our poetry
I always knew you deserved the attention.

There's a tank of caterpillars
Children watch them grow and set them free
A living breathing memorial

We really did found something beautiful.

When we passed on
They elected our children to run.
Our love still thrives
Claims territory
Inspires young writers

I saw a young girl reading your letter start to cry
I didn't need to look.
I knew which one it was
You haven't written it yet.

Hush
Molly Balius Oct 2015
The night is quiet.
Far too quiet,
And the silence is...

Monstrous.
It's a beast, a demon,
And the only weapon
Is a whisper.

Not voice, voice just
Strengthens him.

No... just a whisper,

A ghost of a word,
A ghost of a scream.

That will do it.
That will **** him.

But be careful,
He bleeds echoes.
Bleeds them like daggers,
Spits them like venom.

His blood is diseased,
Those echoes are infected.

Please don't fall ill.
Please don't fall silent.

The only way
To slay the silence is to

hush.

After he leaves-

Leaves? Yes, he only leaves,
He does not die.
Not truly.
Silence can never really die.

So after he leaves,

Then you can scream.
Then you can scream,
Splash your voice on the walls.

Stain the dirt,
Stain the trees,
Stain the Earth with it.
Then stain the sky,
Stain the heavens.
Make the clouds
taste your breath.

Spill your voice,
Your soul-soaked words,
And drench all life,
From the snails to the birds.

Stain their tears,
Stain their eyes,
Stain their lips,
Stain their lies.

Make the stars beg for more,
Make the air beg for less.
Mark your territories,
And keep him at bay.
Don't let the night fall
Too close to the day.

But he'll always lurk,
And his wounds will scar,
But the echoes still
Run through his veins.

He's still diseased.

Still waiting to attack
The world and make all silent.
And make all dead.
He'll have your head.
He'll rip your voice out,
Through your throat.
He'll drink your words
From your neck
Like a straw.

Kind of like a butterfly
Drinking nectar
From a flower.

He'll drain you of any sliver, any
Hint of soul-soaked whisper,
Any drop left of your voice.

He'll drain you, and you'll
Have no choice
But to fall victim to the silence.

Fall victim to the echo.

That's all he is,
That all silence will ever be.
An echo soul
With a shadow body.

He is not null,
He is not nothing.
He is the boomarang,
The ricochet of a voice.

Some poor voice so long ago,
Screamed so loud,
Now doomed to be an echo.

Doomed to be silent,
But never gone.

Just remains, traces,
Footsteps, claw marks,
Leftovers of a voice once so loud.

So loud, it vanished,
Leaving an outline.

Leaving a ghost
To haunt the voiceless.
Preying on quiet,
Spreading the silence through echoes.

Until you hush.

Whispers can **** him,
But he cannot die.
The echoes will bleed from him,
And away he will fly.

And the echoes will follow
Like shadowy ghosts.
And they hide and they latch
onto unwilling hosts.

They'll watch from the night,
Just wondering why
Why you are filled with such
Terrible fright.

Why do we fear the silence?
Why are we scared of the dark?
Why do we hide from what we do not know?
What we cannot see, or hear... Or
What we cannot hold?

We fear them, the echoes, the
Empty, the unknown.
We fear them because we
Can never know.

But it's dangerous to know
Because to know is to die-
Because sometimes to live
You have to **** your mind.

That's why we fear the silence,
Because it means we cannot know.

We don't understand what knowing can do.

Thats why a certain volume of absolutely nothing
Can tear you to shreds,
Can rip off our heads,
While saving our lives.

And the beasts,
The echoes
The silence,
And shadows
All know.

They know,
They know,
They know.

So hush.

Short and light skinned
Oh b, those photos you send me
Have me feeling a certain type of way
Wish I could lay with you just to
Give you a kiss in the mornin'
Oh yeah I need to say that I've fallen since that
One day I finally got to see you in person
We may have our problems
Let call this a Boomarang
We always find each other
When i realize it's been too
Long since I sent you an blush face emoji
B can't you see I'm still digging you
Couple years later
Remember dancing at my cousins party
Man I wish you have never left that day
Not interested in investing more time
With anyone else
There just isn't replacing the crazy b
I'm deep in love with
You like to rave
And I like to dance all night
Let's get together and dance to some dope mellow music
Can we make it official so I can
Go scream in the street
"I finally got bri back"
