My hand held tightly and that kiss on the brow
tells me time is leaving me right about now

My eyes are closed tightly and my heart rate so fast
I remember the day I met you, seems like the night before last
We'd party till midnight then party some more
Like lovers we'd walk barefoot on the sandy sea shore

I remember our big day watching you walk down the aisle
your eyes shining brightly over that wicked infectious smile
We made promises for ever our sacred wedding vow
sadly coming to fruition just about now

So don't be sad when I leave you when my hand turns cold
it's the beauty of living that we get to be old
Our life was made whole by that great ebb and flow
I loved you forever, now its time to let go

My hand held tightly and that kiss on the brow
tells me time is leaving me right about now
New Keys

Will I do it justice
will I find the words

Unlocking tomorrow
— with phrases unheard

(Dreamsleep: February, 2024)

Counting Inward

It’s never about
the number of words
Only the meaning
— and truth to be heard

(Dreamsleep: February, 2024)
I dared not hope to glimpse Heaven
Nor sit on Contentment's throne;
A darkened abyss was my domain
And Love's radiance unknown

There was no cause for dreams to stir
Or my senses to run wild;
The indifferent ebb and flow of Life
Left my weary heart beguiled

I preferred the grave to this fate,
But you rolled away the stone
And drew forth my cold exhausted breath,
Replacing it with your own

Quietly you opened the door
To my heart and entered in;
Your loving words, spoken faint and low
Spread joy where sorrow had been

Like the muted flutter of wings
That guide a bird to its mate
Came the gentle whisperings of Love,
Silencing the voice of Fate

And so this heart, dying in degrees
(Lifeless though it seemed to be)
Bounded with glee when it heard your voice . . .
At last!  Love had called to me!
You’ll never find out
where you might have gone
If you don’t leave
where you’ve been

You’ll never approach
who you might become
If you change
with every whim

You’ll never discover what’s
over the hill
With both feet stuck
in the sand

You’ll never discern the
right from the wrong
Indecision
—your command

(The New Room: January, 2024)
I remember the day
you borrowed my pain
“Take it,” I told you
no need to explain

It’s shopworn and battered
each scar duly earned
Its weight a true burden
of prophecy spurned

Then when you’ve finished
the torture complete
Find a new soul
to will it discrete

But no matter what happens
or how much you cry
This loan is forever
—forever goodbye

Meant To Be

As sure as the Earth is spinning
As sure as a baby cries
As sure as in nature, caterpillars
Will always become Butterflies

As sure as the four seasons
As sure as puppy dogs wag their tails
As sure as every Witches story
Will always include a book of spells

As sure as time will pass
As sure as the Churches ring their bells
As sure as every good suit jacket
Is synonymous with its lapels

As sure as a teenagers heart will break
As sure as the flowers need the rain
As sure as the sound of loneliness seems
To be the whistle of a midnight train

As sure as a wedding needs bridesmaids
As sure as the rivers flow to the sea
As sure as true opposites attract, Baby
You know our love was Meant To Be

All men are created equal. He said.
She raised her eyes, and shook her head.
