Carve my name
I whittled away quietly at life
understanding my limits
and sometimes overstretching
but I always learned on that path
once on the right path I quickly moved on
and never looked back
Quietly people noticed me
which was daunting and exciting
so, I whittled some more
learning from my peers
I expanded their experiences
and my confidence grew
until I met love
which is worldly but solitary also
I whittled some more
but quickly realised
WE needed to whittle together
we did
understanding our needs
separate and whole
became a new challenge
but love conquers all
our whittling complete
our names now carved

Parenthood began
we whittled away quietly at life

Horse Talk
In my head your so lyrical, funny and wise

On paper, your beauty, brings tears to my eyes

Yet, I persist in your story, and how it should be told

I'll open my heart, let my feelings unfold

I met you on that summers day, saw the wind in your hair
I loved you at first sight, put my heart in your care
We rode through the forests, fields, and mountains up high
The views of the valleys made me wish we could fly
Do you ponder, of who I write of, I'll tell you, of course
His name is Sunset, he's an Arabian horse

A smile and a blush
I remember that summer day
so long ago now
the wind dancing with the corn
sun ripening the fruit

You held my hand
with that look and a smile so bright
I smiled
my heart racing  in agreement

We walked and ran
lay on a golden bed of corn
I felt like a goddess in your arms
the silence overwhelmed us

We lay
Naked
I’m there with you now
I remember that day
with a smile and a blush

A moment I missed
I remember the time I was sat on your bed
The warmth of my lap as I cradle your head
The things that I thought, I wish I’d have said

Now I look out my window as I’m sat on my bed
Elbows on knees as I cradle my head
And wonder what you’d have thought about the things I never said

The Welsh Harp
Slowly you meander through the streets
your skips turn to dance on the village green
where your partner spins you to a stop
dancing amongst the clouds as your feet start to tap

Your heart is torn between love and death
love wins for now smiling you kiss him hello
tears fall now you must kiss him goodbye
as your feet start to tap

Dancing and smiling you wave at the crowds
disappearing in the mountain mist but never alone
you lay on the sun kissed hill dreaming of love
in the music you have found it as your feet start to tap
Inspired by Catrin Finch and Aoife ni Bhriain

The confused psychiatrist
When I look into a poets mind
Normality alas has been left far behind

A jumbled mass of words and thoughts
Like Ghandi on holiday in a pair of lycra shorts

It’s my job to assess and try to mend the pain
But a poet it seem likes the aura of the insane

So ill listen politely and smile at the right time
Then tell the mad poet everything will be fine

Now when they are gone and their words I read
Such a sad lament makes my heart sadly bleed

Not for the poet alas it’s too late
But for the next poor person they ask out on a date

Alzheimer. A Vision Lost
And the visions were lost
I tried to remember
just flashes of my life, past
I remember your face! or do I?
Yes, I remember you
I loved you
I love you
and the visions were lost
I tried to remember
who you were?
You have a lovely smile........

A orphan leafs story
As the autumn winds blew I clung on for dear life
but my grasp grew tired and I floated on the wind
I watched my home drift further and further away
when I landed all was silent until I heard footsteps

I was scooped up with the nuts the grass and the mud
and carried off to a place I now call home
kept warm away from the snow and the rain until spring
when more little bodies needed my warmth

They left and I was alone but not for long
a twit twit twoo was welcomed to my home
and soon there was more feet than I could handle
chaos when the worms and bugs tried to escape

As summer ended again I was alone until autumn blew in
more nuts grass mud and leaves gathered at my home
we cwtch down for the winter
with our fury friends

A Fairy Friend
Did you know if you fall asleep
in the quiet of the  wood
A fairy will look over you
but only if you’ve been good

She’ll cover you in fairy dust
and make you disappear
She can sense vibration in the ground
those naughty elves are here

They can smell your sent and feel your breath
they know you are quite near
Be quiet now lay silent
there is nothing here to fear

The elves are gone but they’ll be back
run run run please don't wait
I’ll watch over you till the edge of the wood
and to your garden gate

Aberfan, a reminder
In the chilled autumn air, we ran to school
Leaving our mam well behind
We were never late, 9.00 am the bell rang
Waved to our mam and blew her a kiss
By the time she got back home…..
We never left that school
We were never late

The Shindig
The fiddler played her tune and the people danced
the skirts of the women floated
as they were thrown high by the young men
laughter consumed by the night

A loan guitar lamented sadly
and the voices followed
tears on the cheeks
as the lovers danced

The beat changed
and the hands clapped, louder and louder
on a loan table she tapped her feet
and weaved her hands, louder and louder

And the wine flowed and the beer spilt
not a word was spoken
as the fiddler played her tune
and the people danced and the people danced

Very Much
Happiness is
The warmth of your body as it brushes mine as you sleep
The peace I find as I face you and wonder at how much I love you

Trepidation is
When your eyes open and look at me as I wonder if you love me

Elation is
When you engulf me in your arms and hold me and whisper I love you

Can you, remember a dream?
I awoke one morning from a powerful dream
my brain all flustered as if powered by steam
The images so haunting they had to be saved in word
my imagination could not write it, how absurd
As my pen hovered over my empty note book
should my dream be told, could I be mistook
Then my powerful dream emptied into the cold morning air
left me saddened and empty and full of despair
                                    BUT
I look at it as not a crash, but a very close miss
Because I wouldn't of been able to entertained you by writing this
The dust dances with the butterflies
In the beams of the mid afternoon sun
Barley sways to the tune of the sultry breeze
My eyes light up between the tall hypnotising stalks
As the grass caresses me tightly in the warm summer sun

I close my eyes and sleep

The moon beam reads my skin as the goose bumps rise up
My eyes slowly awake and my mind grasps the crisp still night air
Darkness flows over me
Every movement crunches, like a cinema snack
I feel a thousand eyes, but no one is there
As I escape from the silence, heart pounding, adventure over

Can you taste Christmas
Can you taste Christmas on the winter wind
watching the grey snow clouds gather
smoke drifts from the tall, tall chimneys
you can taste the kindling in the air

Heavy clouds break under the strain
white flakes fall on the face
of the red cheeked children
excited
as they leave school for the winter break
later, snowmen gather in the streets
coal black eyes
mother’s collecting their vegetables off their sad faces
as the children play on frosted fields

Silence gathers
as golden light shines through the tired wooden windows
night falls
peace
until the morning light brings more snow
the children are barred until breakfast is done
then the sky is lite with the voices of all
the happy children
playing

You can taste Christmas on the winter wind

When I grow up!
When I grow up I want to be
a fairy on top of a Christmas tree
I'd make you laugh I'd make you smile
I'd put your present on top of the pile

When I grow up I want to fly
a tour operator in that big blue sky
I'd take you anywhere you'd like to be
as long as we're together just you and me

When I grow up I'd like my life
to be full of happiness devoid of strife
We'd sit and reminisce about good times we had
the greatest of course being a new mum and dad

When I grow up I'd like time to stand still
like walking the zigzag to the top of the hill
and when we get there we'd hold hands a last kiss
and remember the good times we will now surely miss

Healing Time Time Will Heal
A year has passed since our last farewell
Am I healing, only time will tell?

You visit me as I lay asleep on my bed
We smile, we talk, undo the sad things we said

Yet when I awake I still believe your whole
Time is healing, healing is time, who's the fool

I know now, I have to say my last farewell
Will time heal me, only time will tell
It can be
Whatever you want it to be

But it has it be

From
Your soul
Your heart
Your sorrow
Your happiness

Only then
Can you share it

And we will feel every word

My petals fell
in that winter sleep
Snow cradled me
to the earth so deep
Until the sun broke free
made the branches weep
As the blossoms bloomed
their secrets to keep
And the lambs made play
watched by flocks of sheep
As my petals awoke
the mad summer did hares leap

Happy V Day?
When young love entangles you like prey in a spider’s web
Wrapped warm and helpless
Awaiting the kiss of death
You
Suddenly you break free
Spreading your wings
Embracing the death you have left behind

Yet still the addiction of love
Reaches out
Love finds you older and wiser
Eager
Now embraced by the happiness
You let go
Distracted
The web tightens around both of you
A bond that can only be broken by the evilest of deeds

What is to follow
Will be your love story

Please tell!

I said hello
you smiled and said hello you

We danced we touched
you smiled as you turned to walked away
and we new

I waited all of that night but you never returned
and I wondered why

I still remember your smile and I still wonder
if you new
As the fog lifts
The future becomes clear
In the end
There is only the dark

But for now
I must crave the light
To live my life
I will follow the sun

Only then
Will I welcome the dark?

Midwinter!
The snowdrop tested the winter air
To be met by the ***** with an hypnotic stare
As the robin picked for its daily treat
The snow fell steadily around its feet

An owl sat on an oak branch just half asleep
Watching a sheepdog circle the last rouge sheep
And in the distance a great mountain hare
Now attracting the vixens hypnotic stare

But daylight quickly turned to night
The midwinter moon shone its haunting light
The small rodents in panic ran out of sight
As the owl circled in silent flight

I glanced in the mirror
As I walked through the hall
A face in the aperture
That I did not recall

He was older than I remembered
And looked tired and worn
A face of great experience
All battered and torn

But the eyes still sparkled
When he winked and smiled
The good times remembered
When that youngster was wild

Tourists
I came down the up and up the down
ended up in the wrong side of town

I kissed a prince he turned into a toad
ended up on the wrong side of the road

I went to church to confess my sin
they slammed the door would not let me in

I found a witch, please, wave your magic wand
she said no your from the wrong side of the pond
I watch from the corners
Mesmerised with obsession
My blood over boiled
My head full of passion

Then through the corner
You passed my mind’s eye
You twirled in a movement
As if trying to fly

As I edge closer
My head swayed with the tune
Our eye clasped together
Life a wolf’s cry at the moon

I tapped on his shoulder
And he slipped off the floor
Our bodies came closer
Already wanting for more

The scent on your neck
Made my senses go wild
The warmth of your body
Left me nowhere to hide

Then as we circled the dance floor
The crescendo grew louder, the pace didn’t drop
But, abruptly the music
Just came to a stop

I look into your eyes
Your smile left me Bereft
All the ladies in the row
Took a step to the left

My dance is now over
As I move out of the ring
The partner who replaced me
Just smiled with a grin

The corner now beckons
A safe place to stay
I’ll watch for a while
Until I’m ready to play

and laugh among the daffodils who
light up their path
as the birds sing their lovers song

walking among the great Oaks, Hazel
and Cherry blossom
teasing the senses
of every lover’s breath
a gift from Mother Earth
And still the lovers in the park
hold hands

Is now dimmed, we feel your pain

Decadence has made you blind

I move around a bit, the streets are now my home
I watch people talking to the air, as if they're on their phone
Some people look at me, sigh, and then they wonder why
I'd tell them if they stayed long enough and look them in the eye
On the plus side I have no bills pay or buy petrol for the car
The doors of opportunity are still open? or maybe just ajar
The nights, I can tell you stories about the nights while your tucked safe in your bed
When all the lights in this downtown City turn a dodge shade of red
So, I keep my head down until the morning, when the bin men loudly arrive
Count the money spread out on my mat and thank God I'm still alive
You see, I lost everything dear to me, now I'm destitute and alone
That's why I move around a bit, and the street are now my home

And I still love you

And no one's gonna take that time away

A white feathered quill
Slowly the life blood is
spilt in anger
it drips to the floor
now never able to fulfill
that wish of the perfect relationship

The writer
hands in his head, full of words
stuck in a chaos jam, bumper to bumper
the ending is clear
as the ink pool reflects
a silent white feathered quill
The house settled slowly into a deep deep sleep
The floor board could be heard yawning
The wind brushed the window
he's coming it whispered
Hush said the bed with a sock hanging from it's nose
the children are asleep

The cat lay sleeping on the settee
and let out a one eyed peep
as dust fell from the chimney
The dog in the armchair sat up
ears touching the celling
as he saw the footprints of Santa’s soot-black feet.

Now the smell of Christmas wafts through the house

The children’s noses twitched
And let out big Christmas yell
Quick, SANTA’S BEEN

All the house was awoken to the sounds
of great joy and the happiness

The smiles on the faces this day
light up the world
and we wish it could be Christmas every day
