Her name is Daisy
She drives me crazy
She leaps from bed to bed
Just to land inside your head.

It was a Sunday
When I saw her
Melted in my arms
Swiveling her body to mine

Brought her home
To my momma
Right into my life
Now she's looking so mighty
Fi-i-i-ine!

Her name is Daisy
Never fails to amaze me
She looks like a summer day
Swings her head
When she walks and sways.

My darling Daisy
My crazy Daisy
My hazy Daisy
Daisy Days

My Dai-ai-ai-aisy
My Dai-ai-ai-aisy
My Dai-ai-ai-aisy
Daisy Days

Woof woof!

There,
I know you're there,
Though I can't hear a word
That you speak.

Troughs,
I'm riding troughs,
And pretty soon I hope
I will peak.

The day went by,
Got lost in the sound.
The night stood long;
But in darkness,
I remembered you.

In these empty waters,
I'm tested yet sober.
My soul only thirsts for you.

I've long to face wonder,
To replace the sunder
With love that was made for two.

And I still wonder why
I let these days go by

A splash of light!
The morning came,
And with a hint of rain,
The sun rose high.

I searched your face,
In rumpled sheets,
In busy streets,
I looked for you.

The crowds pushed forward,
Too busy to care,
For thoughts that dare
involved mundane things,

You heard my voice,
Past thundering jeers,
Of distant fears
I whispered softly.

It was not your disposition
That had grabbed my attention
But the brownness of those eyes
That latched on me by surprise.

I remember that day you wore
Everything that I’d normally abhor
Your horrid purple lines
And framed empty glass
That first unhinged my prejudice
Before it came to pass.

You had that unconventional sense
Of an unassuming confidence
I found it in the bounce of your walk,
And in the quirky lightness of talk.

I’ve built my walls in open spaces
I’ve seen hostility in friendly faces
Now time is but a futile element
Of shattered pieces of sediment.

You have stiffened me beyond
The normalcy to respond
That came with many years of running
From any semblance of this feeling.

Now I’m left without knowing what to do
With the unbearable lightness of you
That relieves me of many years gone heavy
And leads me to a space for two.

Though the
Infinitesimal, inconsequential
Being I may be
Acting bigger
Than who I am
A tiny speck of galaxy.

Oh I wonder
How I capture
Such importance
From the likes of thee.

Though the
Infinitesimal, inconsequential
Being I may be
You make me bigger
A magnificent speck of galaxy.

I still wonder
How I capture
The undeserving
Gift of thee.

What is it about the rain that makes us feel so
Limited?
Is it the water that seems to enclose on us
Wherever we may step?
Or how every living thing drops in solidarity with
The rain that falls on the pavement?

But that afternoon
We were liberated
By the art of
Racing in the rain.

What is it about running that makes us feel so
Limitless?
Was it the length of our strides,
Or the thrill of the wind?
As it rushes through our bodies as we push on
Against it, with it?

I do not recall how we got there
But we were in the middle of it
We were running, oh yes,
We were running
Forgetting in the first place
Why we were running.

I do not recall who started racing who
Was it I racing you?
Or you racing me?
Or were we simply racing each drop
That fell from the boundless sky?

The movement felt like years,
The movement felt like bliss,
The flashes came in shades of blue,
My favorite.

And when my knees began to buckle
Under the weight of the rain
You carried me on your shoulders
As we raced against the rain.

Today I heard a song
From the distant future
When I’ve been healed
By time and suture.

You told me here
To let go and hold on
As we disappeared
Into the beautiful unknown.

It sang of the endless lyrics
Of words that we’ve yet to know
And we danced to the beat of many years
Where we could only grow
Older, closer, better.

So while that future song
Has yet to be composed
I’ll be humming similar melodies
‘Til the universe draws us close.
