Comfort Zone


   Not to be confused with

      a safe house, because

until I met the residents of the forest.

On my way back I noticed that same

stork in exactly the same spot as when

I had passed by almost two hours before.

From the bank of the brook I called and

said “ What is the secret of staying in the

same place stationary “ ? One leg, yes,

that’s it without a doubt stand on one leg.

Well, I could not see that working for me

either, but it sounded a logical solution.

I continued along by the bank of the

stream where there was a three-toed

sloth who are well known for lethargy

and just hanging around barely moving.

I thought I would ask, despite it being

asleep in the exact same spot as when

I passed by almost 3 hours previously.

excuse me Mr Sloth, would you mind to

tell me what is the secret for staying in

the same place doing nothing different?

It is very simple, the sloth said, all the

other species on earth evolved to eat

more but we evolved to do less that’s it,

do less, very simple and we also eat less.

well, that might work for him and I could

see his philosophy of food to rest ratio.

I was just as curious as I had been and

none of the answers to the question

posed to those I had met satisfied me

I was still searching for an explanation

just as I arrived at the edge of the

plantation, a gale force westerly came

in from the Atlantic and all the foliage

of the decisions trees were airborne

and it was only then that I discovered

that the answer to my question was

blowing in the wind and why perhaps

the antonym of motionless is leaves.

  made of salt, a metaphorical reminder

   not to heed the words of Lee Marvin

    in Wandering Star, despite it being

    a commentary on moving forward,

  and then, when I get, to where I was

   meant to be going, I want to forget,

                    where that was.

       There is nothing more daunting than

        that first page of a blank book one

                 is contemplating to write.


     There are no lay-by margins, no marks

     of delineation, no direction pointers or

    numerical reminders and no stop signs.


      There are no en route filling stations

     where one can pull over to replenish

       the reservoir, with fuel for thought.


      There are no off-ramps, nothing but

       a straight, monotonous, repetitious

       vista with a vanishing point mirage.


           There are no signed posts, no

          wayside images to entertain or

          enlighten and no SOS cubicles.


          There are no serendipitous or

         intuitive encounters en passant,

      and no 'prompt thesaurus lex’icons.

                                        
      There are no Péage girls to distract

    ones concentration and turning over

         a new leaf is next to impossible.


There are no flashing lights of inspiration,

   and imagination is just as intermittent

  as windscreen wipers in undecided rain.


     There are no detours one can take in

     order to avoid the writers blockades

which occur unannounced and frequently.


     There are no alternative routes or GPS

       girls to rectify an incorrect choice one

   might have made in the haze of brain fog.  



      There are no soft shoulders to rely on

       nor no roundabouts and no rear view

      mirrors because it is a solitary passage.


        There are no excuses for not having

    made sufficient research before venturing

  forth on a journey without a DESTINATION.
