Hatred is like a fire
And can easily be spread
You let it fill you up inside
Hoping to burn away the dread

At first it feels like it's working
Cuz you're distracted from the pain
But the fire keeps on burning
Becoming difficult to contain

It consumes you from within
Burns everything in its path
Growing stronger every minute
Turning anger into wrath

Before you know what's happening
Hate has filled your core
The fire in you takes over
You think differently than before

You can't hold back your comments
And your actions start to change
You get mean to the people around you
And they all start acting strange

While you were letting hate control you
Everyone else moved on
Now as you try to put out the flames
Everything you had is gone

Surrounded by all the ashes
That you let your anger create
You finally begin to realize
The error of your metal state

The right thing to do is move on
And put your fury in the past
Only when you learn to forgive
Will you feel better at long last

Moon Humor
Morning light comes crashing through the
windows of my terribly mundane room,
the same place I wake day after day. Dust has settled
on the picture frames week after week and leaves
a pall of sadness over the bookshelves.

Misery isn’t always some place we speak of
so distantly, as if waking up here wasn’t akin to
tearing off a scab and rubbing salt and sand
into the wound. My first thought of the day was
a wish, that love could be more than
just a blank page staring back.

The first sip of hot coffee reminds me of the
velvety words that always fell from your mouth. I’m
wishing that I was in another place or knew
another language, like the one I already know
somehow isn’t good enough for writing you poems.

I’m snapped out of my nostalgic mind
by the neighborhood children playing on the street.
Their screams echo down these barren halls; I wish
I could be five and full of pure joy while
learning the world all over again. But I have aged
and my innocence was lost so many years ago.

Everything I had tried to write you was full of guilt
and sadness and missing my genuine joy. Before I had to
picture my mother in a casket. Before I knew you’d leave
for someone who could fake happiness better
than I ever could. Before I lost that last bit of naïve light.

I’ll be searching for the beauty I once held inside.
Today my thoughts are shrouded in what was better
about yesterday. There is no use in counting money and
moments already spent. Maybe for a day I’ll forget you and
force myself to write freely and be childlike. I won’t try to
quantify beautiful, writable moments of everyday life.

Maybe today I’ll actually let myself write.
Useless babble
Thrown forth from a drunk
Reminds me of a child
Playing with bubbles in a tub

You can't understand them
You laugh and you think
One's just a baby
But the other
How much did he drink?
Inspired by a drunk friend babbling while his wife gave his son a bath, thought it funny and ironic(at least his son had a good reason for babbling, he was under 2) :)

Beauty is hiding the ugliest blemish
Embedded lies in the mind of the squeamish
A feeling such as love cannot be contained
So why insist hatred is preordained

Drawn into gray the eyes do deceive
I capture a leprechaun and stole his disease
And now I hoard over this *** of gold
Refusing to pay the amount that I owe

Take not the day that I long await
Touch not my blue skies, my forest, my lakes
Yet help thyself to the opinion of those
Who embark on life’s journey by selling their souls

Sorry but I don't need you here
I want to be alone
All I need is my Mollie dog
laying by my side
Its not my intention being rude
nor ever to offend
Its just that on the mountain side
I can make my ammends
You see its here that I can sit and think
here that I can write
Sorry its not my intention
to push you out of sight
Dear friends I find I need to be
on a cliff above the raging sea
I find no inspiration in your mindless words
I can only write of what nature inspires

The Noose
The wind blew in violent cold gusts
And took all my words with it
To leave consciousness barren
My pen bleeds no more.
Here's to the blank page!
Adventurous spirit I still have inside
Though through these bars
no mountains left to climb

No thrill of the hunt
No shade under trees
On a vast arid desert
Like when I was free

Alone in my cage
Though the bars they are rusting
Maybe someday
though I'm no longer trusting.

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said "All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them"
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.
Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.

Slumbered scratching into a bedside notebook
lying in darkness under a thick blanket of revelation
Afraid that lamplight may blind these 3am eyes
to the dim, wispy glow of mystical comprehension

Trusting that valued mysteries will later be deciphered
from this barely legible scrawl of the night
Refusing to squander such moments of divine lucidity
captured in a poetic hand written outside the lines

Reluctant to wait until morning lest the light of day
exposes a tenuous relationship to reality
Causing rays of enlightenment to glance off its surface
in beams of obscure and superficial logic

Tangential truths
   scribbled in the dark

the moon is waxing
the tide is flowing
my soul is coming into estrus

there are no answers
only decisions to be made
actions to be taken

the universe is waiting
courting my being
an invitation to expand
