That first text made my hands shake
My heart beat faster
And all it said was “Hey”
After it sent I wanted to pull it back
Reach into cyberspace
And catch it before you could read it.
But I didn’t and you read it
And the craziest thing of all is you replied
And now we’re talking and I would stay up all night
Just to talk to my friend.
The friend I thought I’d lost
On a clear night in July
When you said you didn’t love me anymore
And I said we were on the same page.
I lied.
But you will never know that
Because the woman you’re talking to
Isn’t the girl you left in my backyard
I’m not the girl you walked away from
I’m stronger and different and this time
I want your friendship because
This time, you can’t hurt me
