This heart that is inside of me
Never seems to get a break
Always beating fast for love
Yet stopping often for mistakes

When it sees a pretty face
Thinking this must be love true
It flitters as it flutters
Skips a beat or two

Then throws itself into a tizzy
When things don't turn out right
Just barely one beat above
What the Medics call flat line

Between all the aches and all the breaks
Of this fickle heart
Sometimes its quest is ended
Before it even starts

I wish this heart came with a warning
To take life one beat at a time
Then things might work out for the better
With loves treasure it hopes to find
