He told me he loved me,
and that I should love him in return.

I was so excited to have someone,
to be with someone.

He told me to do the craziest things,
always saying,
"You'll do it if you love me."

Eager to please,
I hastily did everything he asked.

My friends tried warning me,
"I don't like him, he's always trying to change you."
I always told them that they were overthinking it.
I should've listened to them.

One day,
he gave me a ring,
and said, "Because you can't live without me."

That day I realized that
I hadn't fallen in love with anyone.

I'd fallen in love with love itself.
