surreal
I can just barely hear the teacher's drone
over the familiar notes and lyrics and sounds
I let my pencil move over the paper
and sketch what lies before me:
Calculator, paper, paper, pencil.
The song changes

I finish my sketch
turn my volume up
just a notch
and disappear into the song.
