The last train arrives
  a man in dark suit alights
  the neighbour’s dog barks

    A broken cycle
    leaning against an old fence  
    who was the owner?

    The evening bell rings
     children rush home from the field
     it is dinner time

  It’s a holiday
  all the city’s shops are closed
  no beggar is seen

   In the wet marshland
   the pelican spreads its wings
   ready for take-off
