I told myself I couldn't hold the truth
in a matter of seconds, I lost the essence.

I told myself I couldn't find the grind
of my purpose, I lost the focus.

I told myself I couldn't be the person
people say they see, I won the protest.

I always told myself I couldn't so I didn't.

And time is slipping through the fingertips
of my eyelids that keep shutting when they shouldn't.
